Changzhou Marriott Hotel: Unique Charm and Experience of a Longstanding Brand 1. Location The hotel is located in the Xinbei District of Changzhou. Its building is one of the city's landmarks, and it boasts a prime location. It's right next to the Olympic Sports Center, Cultural Plaza, and Changzhou Museum, close to the subway station, and surrounded by shopping malls, offering convenient shopping and entertainment options. Whether you're heading to Changzhou North Railway Station or Changzhou Railway Station, it's only about a 15-minute taxi ride away, making transportation very convenient. 2. Hotel Common Areas The hotel's design and decor, while showing its age, present the classic style of the old Marriott, but are well-maintained. Located on floors 37-47 of the building, the hotel has 261 guest rooms and its own three restaurants and a lobby bar: the City Bistro, the Hao Xuan Chinese Restaurant, and the Toscana Italian Restaurant. Near Christmas, a tall Christmas tree greets guests at the entrance, creating a festive atmosphere perfect for photos. The hotel also features a 25-meter heated swimming pool and a 24-hour gym to meet guests' leisure and fitness needs. 3. Guest Room Experience I was assigned a corner room on the 43rd floor, a non-smoking floor, directly facing the Cultural Plaza, offering a fantastic view. However, the air conditioning in the room wasn't ideal, struggling to reach a comfortable temperature whether cooling or heating. The sun-facing side became hot and dry after being exposed to the sun, impacting the overall comfort. Commendably, the corners of the nightstands on both sides of the bed were equipped with anti-collision devices to prevent guests from bumping into them and getting injured. The minibar requires a fee, the TV is an LG brand but doesn't support screencasting, and the curtains are electric and easy to use. 4. Bathroom Facilities The bathroom features a separate shower and bathtub, but the toilet faces the bathtub directly without any partition, while the shower area is separated. There's a small TV opposite the bathtub, allowing guests to relax and watch shows while bathing. Unfortunately, the TV is positioned too high with a fixed angle, requiring guests to look up from the bathtub, making it difficult to see the screen clearly. Plenty of towels are provided, but the sink is a bit low, requiring bending over while washing. The slippers and bathrobes are thick but not particularly soft against the skin. 5. Hotel Breakfast The breakfast offers a wide variety. While there weren't any particularly impressive dishes, it caters to different tastes. The service staff is very attentive, including several university-aged women who were quick and efficient in seating guests and clearing tables. Some friends had different experiences. A Marriott Platinum Elite member successfully negotiated an upgrade from a standard room with a king-size bed to an executive suite (a 3-level upgrade) and access to the executive lounge. They felt that despite the older decor, the hotel's excellent location and attentive service offered great value. Overall, the Changzhou Marriott Hotel has a significant advantage in terms of location and views, and the service is good, but some facilities and experiences could be improved. Changzhou has other Marriott hotels, such as two Sheraton hotels (opened earlier than the Marriott), a Renaissance (newer), and the slightly more distant Jintan Marriott, Liyang Marriott, and Courtyard by Marriott. You can choose according to your preferences and needs. 🧹Soundproofing/Cleanliness: The overall soundproofing is good, and the cleanliness is well-maintained, with both public areas and rooms being quite clean and tidy. 🏘️Room Type/Layout: The corner room layout is reasonable and makes good use of space, with an open view. However, there are minor flaws in the air conditioning and some aspects of the bathroom layout. 🛌Amenities/Facilities: Equipped with electric curtains, a small TV, and other amenities, but the air conditioning effectiveness, TV screencasting, and some details of the bathroom facilities could be improved. 💗Other tips: You can try negotiating for a room upgrade; the hotel is close to many attractions and shopping malls, so you can plan time for sightseeing and shopping; booking with points is more cost-effective if you have enough points.
