When my love for ancient Chinese architecture was awakened, I decided to skip the crowded tourist spots in Taiyuan and Datong, and embark on a less-traveled journey. Unexpectedly, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of ancient architecture in Changzhi! Changzhi, a low-key city, boasts over a thousand well-preserved historical sites, the earliest dating back to the Tang Dynasty. Each site is like a silent historian, quietly telling stories of the past millennium. The carvings, painted sculptures, murals, and various ancient architectural styles here are unique, many of which are the only examples in the country, exuding a one-of-a-kind charm.
