Changsha Tianxin Pavilion: A Rare Historical Memory of the Star City

In ancient China, the population was concentrated in the Central Plains, and the vast area south of the Yangtze River was relatively sparsely populated due to climate and development conditions. However, Changsha, known as the Star City, was one of the few exceptions. The city of Changsha can be traced back to the late Warring States period, more than 2,000 years ago, and is one of the oldest historical and cultural cities south of the Yangtze River. However, walking on the streets of Changsha today, you can hardly see any old buildings, not to mention those from the Tang and Song dynasties, or even the Republic of China. This is because the Wenxi Fire during the War of Resistance almost completely destroyed the old Changsha, leaving almost nothing behind. Only stones survived the fire, so the city walls of Changsha are the only remaining ancient relics. Due to the demolition of the walls, the city walls of Changsha were almost completely destroyed, leaving only the ancient city wall of Tianxin Pavilion. This is the last historical memory of Changsha in 2,000 years. The ancient city wall of Tianxin Pavilion is more than 200 meters long and still retains the architectural form of the Ming Dynasty city wall with rammed earth inside and brick outside. Tianxin Pavilion was built on the city gate, destroyed during the Wenxi Fire, and rebuilt in the 1980s. The pavilion is three stories high, with two additional pavilions, making the whole building magnificent and atmospheric, with the charm of old Changsha. Around the old city wall of Tianxin Pavilion, Changsha has built Tianxin Park, which is a very good leisure green space in the old city of Changsha.
