Suzhou‖Lingering Garden

The Lingering Garden, along with Suzhou's Humble Administrator's Garden, Beijing's Summer Palace, and Chengde's Mountain Resort, is known as one of China's four famous gardens. The garden is filled with pavilions, terraces, towers, and oddly-shaped corridors, coupled with the greenery and a clear pond, offering a view at every step, and the scenery is very elegant. Here, one can experience the unassuming aura between the garden landscapes and waterscapes. The Lingering Garden was originally built in the 21st year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1593), as a private garden for Xu Taishi, the 'Lesser Minister of the Imperial Stud', and was then known as 'East Garden'. At the end of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, it was acquired by Liu Shu, who expanded it and renamed it 'Cold Green Mountain Villa', commonly referred to as 'Liu Garden'. At the beginning of the Guangxu era, the garden was bought by the official Shen Kang, who renamed it 'Lingering Garden'.
