Carmelite Monastery Cebu City - A little sanctuary in the middle of the city

#falladventures #travel #familytravel This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful churches in Cebu City for me. The altar is magnificent, although it is a more modest version of the kind you would see in grand cathedrals in Europe. The Carmelite sisters are cloistered, but during certain times, you can hear them sing with their angelic voices, which definitely adds to the beauty of the monastery. If you're lucky enough to attend, Christmas Day mass here is wonderful, and a family tradition for many. If you can, drop by the little shop run by the Carmelite Monastery at the side (near the parking area) where there are several religious figurines (including the famous Sto. Niño of Cebu) and some treats & medicinal balms, and lotions that were made by the nuns as part of their fundraising. The caramel cookies are particularly good! For the history lovers, former president Corazon Aquino reportedly sought sanctuary here for a short period of time during the Marcos dictatorship. If you enjoy the pictures, please like them!
