Caye caulker (if you decide to stay here)

If you do Belize you inevitably have to decide between staying in ambergris caye or caye caulker. The two are connected by a ferry of some 30-45 minutes. Caye caulker is the much slower one, more relaxed but tends to attract more the backpacker kind. but if you want to join day trips including the one’s snorkelling in hol chan or shark alley you will probably find it more convenient staying in San Pedro which tends to be the assembly point. San Pedro also has more integrated resorts suited for family. That said caye caulker has a few specific experiences worth going to apart from just the Lazy Lizard Club. On the western side of Caye caulker island is a beach where stingrays hang out. These are very docile creatures that have become quite acquainted with human presence and you can get in close touch with them. Just be mindful of their tails. Right next to the stingray beach is a little area zoned off to raise seahorses. And further down is an area where big fish known as tarpons they hang out you can feed them by hand. So there’s certain benefits to staying at Caye caulker even though it’s normally the less popular choice.
