Harvard University

Harvard University, commonly known as Harvard, is a private research university. It consistently ranks first in the U.S. News World University Rankings and is a member of the Ivy League and the Global University Leaders Forum. It is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the Boston metropolitan area. Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, founded in 1636 by the Massachusetts colonial legislature as the New College. In 1639, the school was renamed Harvard College in honor of John Harvard, a minister who had bequeathed the school his entire library and half of his monetary estate. In 1780, Harvard College was officially renamed Harvard University. Harvard University consists of ten faculties and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and has the largest university library system in the world.
