Just outside Brighton Pier, this path is nestled beneath chalk cliffs and follows the coast east of the city towards Eastbourne. The Undercliff Walk is part of the city's coastal defences, which protect the cliffs from erosion. At high tide and in stormy weather, waves occasionally break over the sea wall, and chalk and flint fall from time to time.
