Strand Road

The Strand Road is certainly part of a bygone era- 72 years bygone, actually, as the day I was there was the 72nd Independence Day. Not that you'd have particularly known it. It just looked like what it is - a busy harbourside thoroughfare. However, the old buildings are of so much interest and beautiful architectural and decorative detail, so it's well worth slowing down in the heat of the day to make slow progress to notice them. Many of them have been/are being restored, and they have blue plaques to tell you what they were. It's fun comparing their original functions with their new incarnations. The Strand Hotel does a fabulous high tea if you need sustenance. #thingstodo
