Mar Saba Monastery and beyond!

Mar Saba is a pretty remote monastery in the Judaean Desert. You can walk there along a road that leads you along bedouin dwelling directly to it. If you are orthodox christian the might even let you stay overnight. If not - well you can always try. For hikers there are many steps and stairs hewn in the rock to explore the surroundings. For the real adventurous, try to follow the wadi Nahal Kidron for about 10k into the desert beyond which ends at a small bedouin dwelling. Obviously, don’t attempt this unless you are very fit, have enough water, and are resistant to very hot weather.
