The dawn redwood forest in the National Botanical Garden turns golden, and the boardwalk secret realm welcomes the autumn scenery

In October, the dawn redwood forest in the National Botanical Garden (North Garden) has quietly donned a golden new look, resembling a forest secret realm. The yellow-green mixed canopy pierces the blue sky, and as the autumn breeze passes, it stirs up layers of leaf waves. The golden leaves fall on the creek water like scattered gold, creating a breathtaking view. The dawn redwood here is known as a "living fossil" and is one of China's first-class nationally protected plants. Over 100 million years ago, dawn redwoods were widespread across three continents, but nearly went extinct during the glacial period, surviving only at the border of Sichuan, Hubei, and Hunan provinces in China. In 1941, dawn redwoods were first discovered in Lichuan, Hubei. In the 1970s, seeds were introduced to the Beijing Botanical Garden, successfully propagated, and planted in Yingtao Valley. Today, it has formed the largest dawn redwood scenic forest in Beijing, with trees reaching 15-20 meters tall and straight trunks.
