Explore the Legacy of Yuanmingyuan: Where History and Beauty Collide

#discoverchina The Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan Ruins) is located in Haidian District, Beijing. It was an imperial garden during the Qing Dynasty. In 1860, during the Second Opium War, the Anglo-French allied forces invaded and burned down the palace, destroying or looting many valuable cultural relics and buildings. Visiting the site offers a deeper understanding of this part of history. Although the Old Summer Palace no longer retains its former grandeur, the remaining ruins and broken walls still evoke a sense of its past magnificence and tragedy, making it a site well worth visiting.
