Diaoyutai State Guesthouse

The Diaoyutai State Guesthouse covers an area of approximately 430,000 square meters, with dimensions of about 1 km north to south and 0.5 km east to west. The total floor area of the buildings is 165,000 sq m, the green area covers 250,000 sq m, and the water surface area is 51,000 sq m. Within the grounds, there are 16 villa-style reception buildings and two ancient architectural complexes. Emperor Zhangzong of the Jin Dynasty built a fishing platform here, giving the area its name "Diaoyutai" (literally "Fishing Terrace"), which has a history of over 800 years. Later, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty ordered the dredging of Yuyuantan Lake and the construction of a temporary palace here, incorporating Diaoyutai into the royal gardens and personally inscribing the three characters "钓鱼台" (Diaoyutai). Since 1958, the Chinese government has designated Diaoyutai as a state guesthouse, used for accommodating visiting dignitaries and hosting meetings and conferences. Thus, the name "Diaoyutai" has become synonymous with "State Guesthouse" in China.
