Summer Palace in Beijing - things to know

The Summer Palace (颐和园) in Beijing was the first place I visited in this city. To see the whole palace you need at least 2 hours. History - Built in 1750 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong - Originally called the Gardens of Pure Repose - Severely damaged in 1860 during the Second Opium War - Rebuilt by Empress Dowager Cixi in 1888 - Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 What to see - Kunming Lake (occupies 3/4 of the area) - Long Corridor (728 meters) - Longevity Hill - Temple of Sea Wisdom - Empress Dowager Cixi's Marble Boat Practical information Ticket prices: - Basic entrance fee: 30 yuan (April-October), 20 yuan (November-March) - Combination ticket with entrance to all sites: 60 yuan (April-October), 50 yuan (November-March) How to get there: - Metro: Line 4, Beigongmen (北宫门) or Xiyuan (西苑) station - Opening hours: 6:30-18:00 (April-October), 7:00-17:00 (November-March) #localguides #beijingtrip #historicallandmarks #beijing
