Actually, there is a quiet place with fewer people near Tiananmen that is worth visiting, and that is the Imperial Ancestral Temple (Labor People's Cultural Palace). 🌈 Scenic Features: The Imperial Ancestral Temple is a temple located on the east side of Tiananmen on East Chang'an Street in Dongcheng District, Beijing, with a total area of 197,000 square meters. It was a place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped their ancestors. The architectural layout is rectangular, with three layers of city walls. The main buildings of the Imperial Ancestral Temple are the front, middle, and rear halls. Inside the temple, there are also attractions such as the front glazed gate, the ancestral temple, and the sacrificial furnace. In 1924, the Beiyang government took over the Imperial Ancestral Temple and converted it into Peace Park. In 1931, it was taken over by the Palace Museum as a branch. In 1950, it was renamed the "Beijing Labor People's Cultural Palace" and officially opened to the public. Architectural Details: Front Hall The front hall is the sacrificial hall, also known as the "enjoyment hall," where the emperor performed rituals. It has eleven bays, with a double-eaved hip roof covered with yellow glazed tiles. The plaque of "Imperial Ancestral Temple" is hung here. The enjoyment hall was the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties held grand ancestor worship ceremonies. The seasonal worship at the beginning of each season was called "time enjoyment," and the year-end worship was called "great worship." Ceremonies for major state and family events such as weddings, funerals, enthronements, assuming power, enfeoffments, and wars were called "announcement worship." Middle Hall The middle hall is located behind the front hall and is also known as the sleeping hall. It has nine bays, with a Sumeru base made of white marble. In front of the hall, there is a moon platform surrounded by stone railings. The east and west side halls of the middle hall each have five bays and are places for storing sacrificial vessels. Rear Hall The rear hall has the same structure as the middle hall and is also known as the ancestral temple, where the spirit tablets of the four generations of emperors and empresses before the founding of the Qing dynasty are enshrined.
