Zhongshan Park

Zhongshan Park is located in the center of Beijing, adjacent to Tiananmen Square to the east. According to the official website in March 2023, the park covers an area of 23.8 hectares and is a commemorative classical altar temple garden. Zhongshan Park was once the Xingguo Temple during the Liao Dynasty. In 1420, it was built as the Altar of Earth and Grain according to the 'Rites of Zhou' which dictates 'ancestral temples on the left, altars to the gods of earth and grain on the right.' In 1914, it was opened as Central Park. In 1925, after the death of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, his coffin was placed in the worship hall in the park, and a public memorial service was held. In 1928, to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen, it was renamed Zhongshan Park. See the historical evolution The park features famous landscapes such as Liao cypresses, Altar of Earth and Grain, Zhongshan Hall, Peace Defense Archway, Orchid Pavilion Stele Pavilion, Maxim Pavilion, Huifang Garden, and Tang Flower Gallery.
