Visit the Temple of Heaven Park, and most people head straight for the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests to admire its splendor. In fact, there are many other places in the Temple of Heaven Park that are worth seeing. For example, where did the emperor stay when he came to the Temple of Heaven to offer sacrifices? Today, I will take everyone to visit the often overlooked Fasting Palace. The Fasting Palace is located inside the West Gate of the Temple of Heaven, covering an area of about 40,000 square meters, with a double wall enclosure. There are 167 corridors around the inner wall, which serve as shelters for the guards from wind and rain. The main hall is a five-bay hall without beams, one of the famous buildings in Beijing. The top is covered with blue glazed tiles, indicating humility before heaven. In front of the hall, there is a terrace with a stele pavilion for timekeeping and a pavilion for the bronze fasting figures. The bronze figure is 1.5 feet tall, dressed in ancient civil official attire, holding a bronze plaque inscribed with the words 'fasting and abstinence.' It is said to be modeled after Wei Zheng, a prime minister of the Tang Dynasty. Behind the main hall are five sleeping chambers, where the emperor would fast and abstain before offering sacrifices.
