For the first time in over 200 years, the veil is lifted!

April 18 marks the 42nd 'International Day for Monuments and Sites,' and a new highlight has been added to the Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum located at the Temple of Agriculture—the Shenkuo architectural complex has been opened to the public after relocation and restoration. The 'Shenkuo Historical and Cultural Exhibition' also opened simultaneously, inviting audiences to understand the past and present of 'the world's number one granary.' This is also the first time in more than 200 years that the architectural complex has been unveiled since its relocation. The Temple of Agriculture is an important cultural heritage on the central axis of Beijing and a significant testament to China's agricultural civilization. The Shenkuo architectural complex is located on the east side of the Taisui Temple complex and was originally built in the 10th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. In the 18th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, the architectural complex was moved to its current location. With the advancement of the protection work of the central axis of Beijing, the Shenkuo architectural complex was cleared in December 2021, and subsequent projects such as the demolition of non-cultural relic buildings, restoration of the cultural relic itself, protection of colored paintings, and environmental remediation have been completed, fully restoring the historical appearance of the courtyard.
