Batu Pahat’s Dim Sum Hotspot: A Hearty Breakfast at Fock Yen

#newyearnewtrip #travelanywhere A Hearty Dim Sum Feast at Fock Yen Dim Sum Restaurant, Batu Pahat On the second morning of our Chinese New Year trip, we started the day with a comforting breakfast at Fock Yen Dim Sum Restaurant, a popular spot where locals gather for their dim sum fix. This lively eatery offers a staggering variety of handcrafted delights, ranging from soft, fluffy buns filled with savory or sweet goodness to an impressive selection of steamed and deep-fried specialties. Beyond the usual dim sum offerings, they also feature unique creations like century egg dumplings, delicate steamed vegetable rolls, and the intriguing golden pouch dumpling, which, unfortunately, had already sold out by the time we arrived. Among the many dishes we sampled, the steamed tofu with prawn stood out as an unexpected favorite. It was an ingenious fusion of silky tofu and juicy prawn filling, reminiscent of shrimp siew mai but with an added layer of texture and depth. We also indulged in smooth char siew rice rolls drenched in a fragrant soy-based sauce, tender braised chicken feet infused with rich, savory flavors, and the much-loved lava custard bun, which burst open to reveal a luscious, golden filling. However, the ultimate highlight of our meal was the Hakka abacus seeds, presented in a dim sum basket instead of the typical stir-fried style. Each bite was delightfully chewy and packed with deep, umami-rich flavors, making it a truly memorable dish. The restaurant itself offers air-conditioned indoor seating, providing a comfortable retreat from the morning heat. What caught our attention, though, was the back alley leading to their preparation area, where steamers worked overtime to churn out basket after basket of freshly made dim sum. It was fascinating to catch a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action before the food made its way to our table. For anyone visiting Batu Pahat, Fock Yen Dim Sum Restaurant is a fantastic place to experience both classic and inventive dim sum creations, making it well worth a visit for any dim sum enthusiast. #myitinerary #familytravel #travel #malaysia
