My Visit to the Milestones Museum-Basingstoke: A Step Back in Time

I finally got around to visiting the Milestones Museum last weekend after friends had been raving about it for months. What a fascinating way to spend an afternoon! The museum is essentially a living history experience with recreated Victorian and 1930s streets that you can wander through. I was immediately struck by the attention to detail - from the cobblestone streets to the authentic shop fronts. You really feel like you've stepped into a time machine. The staff dressed in period costumes were incredibly knowledgeable and stayed in character, which added so much to the experience. I particularly enjoyed chatting with a "shopkeeper" in the old sweet shop who told me fascinating stories about how certain candies were made back then. The vintage vehicles collection was another highlight. My dad would have spent hours examining the old cars and buses! The penny arcade was unexpectedly fun too - those old games are surprisingly addictive. If I had one criticism, it would be that the café was a bit overpriced for what you get, but that seems to be standard for museum eateries these days. Overall, well worth the entrance fee. Plan to spend at least 3 hours there to see everything properly. Great for families too - I saw plenty of kids having a blast trying old-fashioned games and activities. I'll definitely be bringing my niece and nephew next time!
