Chocolate at Casa Amatller

Casa Amatller is one of the Modernist style monuments that sits at Barcelona’s main promenade, Passeig de Gracia, right next to one of Gaudí’s masterpieces, Casa Batlló. Casa Amatller was designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one very important name in Catalan modernist architecture style, at the level of Antoni Gaudí. It was the residence of the Amatller family, a wealthy family in the chocolate business. Still to this day the Amatller Chocolate brand is very popular around Spain, and in the souvenir shop/cafe at the ground floor of the building you can purchase a very special for Christmas, the advent calendar. This is a special design edition that showcases the facade of Casa Amatller with little numbered pockets containing tiles of chocolate inside. You are supposed to open them day by day, from the 1st to the 24th of December. Certainly a pretty gift to get into the Christmas mood with a touch of iconic architecture and design.
