Structural Aesthetics of the Sagrada Familia | Gaudi’s Poem to God Using Stone Pillars and Light

Stepping into the nave of the Sagrada Familia is like falling into a forest of giant trees - 56 gray and white bionic columns bifurcate upwards, the columns are covered with concave texture like bark texture, and the top is intertwined with a double-curved arch to form a vein vault. Gaudí abandoned the traditional Gothic flying buttresses and instead used tilted columns to share the gravity, with the angle of each column precisely calculated to translate mechanics into visual poetry.
