Gou Icefall Group - the most accessible icefall group in Baotou This year, Baotou has had a lot of rain, and winter has become a year of icefall explosions. There are countless icefalls of all sizes in Jiufeng Mountain, where you can play with ice and snow. Today, we recommend the Ganggou Icefall Group. It is about 65 km from Baotou City (Donghe). Please see pictures 17 and 18 for details. Navigate directly to Ganggou, and when you see the big sign "Ganggou Campground," head north (or in the direction of the mountain). There is a newly built asphalt road, and you can park at the end of the road. Get off the car and follow the road. The icefall group is 2 km from the starting point of the hike, about 20 minutes away, which is very friendly to beginners. There are three icefalls in the picture. The first one you see is the largest icefall, with a drop of about 40 meters, which is spectacular. There are two smaller icefalls next to it, which are crystal clear. You can even hike up the two small icefalls, which is a lot of fun. It is very suitable for beginners to watch up close, with almost no difficulty. Advanced knowledge: In fact, there is also a super large icefall group in Ganggou, which is also the largest icefall group in Jiufeng Mountain, also known as the "Crystal Palace." The icefall covers the entire mountain, yes, the whole mountain, wide and high, like a gorgeously decorated palace. It is about 12 km one way from the starting point of the hike, normally less than 4 hours one way, with an elevation gain of about 500 meters.
