Xifu Famous Temple: Shifo Temple

Shifo Temple is located about 14 kilometers northeast of Fengxiang District, Baoji City. It stands majestically on Matou Slope, at the peak of Qingfeng Mountain, overlooking the land of Yongzhou. ❤ Recommended Reason: Shifo Temple was formerly known as Qianfo Temple. The temple was founded during the Northern Wei period and got its name because it housed 1,000 stone Buddhas of various sizes. According to research, Qianfo Temple is a thousand-year-old ancient temple with a long history. It is a famous temple in Xifu and a sacred site of Han Buddhism in ancient Yongzhou. Due to historical wars and other reasons, Shifo Temple was burned down multiple times, and its original appearance no longer exists. Only one Shakyamuni stone Buddha statue, about 7 feet high, remains from the original thousand stone Buddha statues. ✅ Must Experience: Since the reform and opening up, insightful people have advocated and led the rebuilding of the temple on its original site. The temple faces south, with a length of about 350 meters from north to south and a width of about 60 meters from east to west, covering an area of 2 hectares. Along the north-south central axis, the Great Compassion Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Shifo Hall were built in sequence, with the Ksitigarbha Hall and the Guanyin Hall on the east and west sides. It was officially opened to the public in 2002. Now, a large bell inscribed with 'Shifo Temple' hangs in a simple shed on the east side of the square, and the steel-framed archway gate also appears somewhat simple.
