🏡 Wat Chai Mongkol was built around 1847. In the past, this area was a community of blacksmiths who made the royal sword for King Rama III, which greatly pleased him. When the temple was built, it was named Wat Chang Saeng, later renamed Wat Chai Mongkol. The important and interesting features within the temple are as follows: 🏠 The Ubosot (ordination hall) has front and rear porches. The door and window frames are designed like Banthom brackets. The gable is decorated with stucco patterns of Narayana riding Garuda. Around the Ubosot, there are sema stones on low bases attached to the Ubosot wall. The shape of the sema stones is typical of the reign of King Rama III but larger and thicker, presumed to be newly built or repaired later. Inside the Ubosot is the principal Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya posture, enshrined on a five-tiered base. 🛕 The Chedi (stupa) has only overlapping lotus petals resembling a segmented cone with a spire on top. There is no bell-shaped body, no throne, and it is neither round nor indented.
