2024 Bangkok Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in October)
Energetic, chaotic, and majestic, these are just a few words that come to mind when describing Bangkok. The heart and capital of Thailand, Bangkok is one of the most sprawling and metropolitan cities in Asia, and a popular gateway into the country. A city that has deeply rooted traditions and cosmopolitan attitudes, Bangkok has abundant cultural fascinations to captivate travelers from all over the world.Located close to the Gulf of Thailand, Bangkok is a city of waterways with the Chao Phraya River flowing through it. Back in the 19th century, as most of the city’s residents lived near or on the water, the city is known as the “Venice of the East.” While the history of Bangkok dates back about 600 years, it didn’t become the capital city until the 18th century. Through trade and commerce, the city expanded to its current scale. Today tourism is one of the major sources of revenue in Bangkok. With a tropical monsoon climate, the capital is hot and humid year-round. The most pleasant months to visit are from November to March when the heat and humidity are at their lowest. But this also means crowds are at their peak in late Fall and Winter, and this is particularly true around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you don’t mind the monsoon season, July and August are the off-peak seasons where many good deals are available on hotels and flights. There are so many first-rate scenic spots on offer in Bangkok, it is impossible to see them all if you only have a few days. For major tourist attractions in Bangkok, most are historical or religious sites. Make sure you admire the amazing architectural design of the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, pay homage to the sacred Jade Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) or the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), or cruise past the temples and mansions on the Chao Phraya River (River of Kings). It is worth noting that, as many sites are sacred, there are strict rules which all visitors must follow. For instance, dress codes at the Grand Palace and various temples, men must wear long pants, shirts with sleeves, and no bare feet are permitted. Women must wear modest clothing that covers knees and shoulders.

Blessings in Bangkok: The Local Favorite Lakshmi Shrine
Hidden on the 4th floor of Gaysorn Plaza in Bangkok is a unique shrine dedicated to the Indian goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing wealth, good fortune, and love. Many locals come here to pray for relationships!
🌟 Detailed Guide to Worshiping Lakshmi: Fridays are considered the best day to worship, but it's okay if you can't make it then!
1. Offerings from Big C: The goddess loves pink and sweets, so offerings are often in pink packaging, with many people bringing apples!
✔️ If you haven't prepared offerings in advance, you can buy them at the temple entrance.
2. Dress and Makeup:
Wear as much bright pink as possible, as it's the goddess's favorite color. Avoid wearing black.👌
3. Worship Process: Maintain a happy mindset throughout, even if the weather is hot. Smile and don't complain. Upon reaching the 4th floor, collect a free offering tray (with 9 incense sticks provided).
4. Pray and make a wish in front of the shrine, ensuring the goddess can see you clearly. After about 5-10 minutes of prayer, toss a 10-baht coin into the water and then place lotus flowers one by one on the water's surface.

The stunning white-themed hotel in Bangkok, 'INNSiDE by Melia'
I initially wanted to write a warning about this hotel‼️, but after calming down, I realized it has quite a few advantages...
INNSiDE is a sub-brand of the Spanish hotel chain Melia, focusing on urban resort leisure style. The INNSiDE in Bangkok (Yiside) just opened in July 2023, making it the newest one. Of course, I had to stay at this trendy new hotel (though it's a bit overrated💔).
🌟 INNSiDE is located in the Sukhumvit area, right across the street from the On Nut BTS station, which is super convenient in this traffic-heavy city! The lobby and public areas feature a modern and elegant design with a pure white tone and rose gold furniture, making it really beautiful and high-end🥰.
🌟 There are two rooftop bars, and the famous infinity pool is on the 34th floor. There's a moon-shaped swing chair and a hammock where you can lie down, perfectly positioned to watch the sunrise and sunset. Waking up to such a beautiful view is truly blissful💕. The panoramic infinity pool and 24-hour gym have a unique design with a transparent glass bottom, making it a must-visit for pool enthusiasts!
✔️ The rooms feature large floor-to-ceiling windows for bright natural lighting, and they all offer a free minibar. The bedding is very comfortable and great for a good night's sleep!
💔 Now, let's talk about what made me furious. The room is quite small at 20 square meters, making me feel like I was in Japan. By Southeast Asian hotel standards, it's subpar. The shower area is very small, and the floor gets wet immediately after showering. There's no place to put your change of clothes, which made me so angry that I called the front desk to complain. The designer must have never used this room to come up with such a terrible space😡.
💯 The On Nut BTS station exit 2 is right next to Tesco Lotus, and nearby are community malls like Big C Extra and The Phyll Sukhumvit 54. The On Nut station area is also filled with affordable massage places, food, and street vendors, with prices much lower than in tourist areas. If you don't mind the room size, you might want to give it a try.

Bankok street food is delicious 🌭
#eatlikealocal
Bangkok street food is honestly a paradise for foodies like me! The moment I stepped into the bustling streets of Sukhumvit and Khao San Road, the vibrant aromas of grilled meats, spices, and sizzling woks hit me. Every corner offers something different, from pad thai to mango sticky rice, and the best part? Most dishes cost between 30-60 THB ($1-2), so it’s super affordable to try a bit of everything.
One of my favorites was the spicy papaya salad (som tam)—refreshing, spicy, and full of flavor. The grilled satay skewers were also incredible! As I wandered, I discovered hidden gems in Chinatown, which is an absolute must for seafood lovers. After indulging in all the food, I took a quick tuk-tuk ride to the Grand Palace, one of the most iconic attractions nearby. Bangkok’s street food is an adventure in itself, and you really can’t go wrong with anything you try! 🥢🍜🌶️

Night Visit to Wat Suthat
After a full meal, I took a walk and passed by Wat Suthat. I noticed that the temple was still open at night, possibly due to some event, so I decided to go in and take a look. The experience was quite pleasant. I really liked the murals, which had a historical feel and were beautifully painted. The Buddha statues were also very majestic, giving off a very comfortable vibe. It's wonderful to find such tranquility in the middle of a bustling city!

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

Ascott Thonglor Bangkok!
The location is really great~ It's located in the bustling city center of Thonglor, with many trendy and interesting bars, cafes, popular restaurants, and spas nearby. It's also close to Marche, The Commons, and other shopping malls, so you can eat, drink, and play all in one place! The transportation is super convenient, with BTS Thonglor Station just a 2-minute walk away, and it's also close to the Siam shopping district.
The hotel design is elegant and stylish, blending traditional Thai elements with modern architectural styles. It opened in 2022, so the facilities are all new!
The excellent service deserves high praise! The doorman will help you with your luggage and take it to your room. When you check in, they will give you a welcome drink, drinking water, and a cold towel, which is very refreshing. They will also enthusiastically explain the opening hours of each area of the hotel.
This time I stayed in an executive one-bedroom apartment. The room is spacious, bright, clean, and hygienic, with a simple and luxurious style. The large floor-to-ceiling windows offer an unobstructed view of the beautiful skyline of the Bangkok business district, immersing you in the modern and charming atmosphere of Bangkok. There are also welcome fruits and a variety of welcome snacks, including chips, dried fruits, etc. The room is equipped with a capsule coffee machine, and the toiletries are from Australia's APPELLES. What's special is that there are hand cream and lipstick. What deserves special praise is that there is a washing machine!! There is also a microwave, induction cooker, and a full set of kitchenware and tableware, which is so convenient~
The infinity pool on the 11th floor is super photogenic! You must go and take photos!! Behind you are high-rise buildings, blue sky, and white clouds. Whether you are sunbathing on the lounge chair or swimming in the water, you can't help but sigh: It's so chill! It feels like a vacation!!
The gym has floor-to-ceiling windows all around, so the lighting is very good. The equipment is very complete, so you can easily enjoy the pleasure of exercise. There is also a free steam room. Adults need to relax, and children do too. There is also a children's club for the little ones.
The semi-buffet breakfast is served at Kinki Restaurant next to the lobby. Not only is there a rich Western and Chinese buffet, but you can also choose Japanese specialties such as cold noodles and tamagoyaki.
At Ascott Thonglor Bangkok, a relaxing and enjoyable vacation is within reach!

🇹🇭 Shopping for Butterbear
#travelshopping #100WaysOfTravel
The favourite bear in Bangkok is Butterbear and you can find her café at Emsphere shopping which is located conveniently at Phrom Phong BTS station. It is a trending bear theme cookies and the Butternear mascot is super popular now. Travel shopping is what I like to do and with the hype with Butterbear, I am here at Empshere to check her out. I did not come early and there was already long queue forming to the cafe. There is also a quota to buy for their merchandise so if you want to buy more then you need to get your friends to queue together with you.

Address: 313/7 Chan Rd, Wat Phraya Krai, Bang Kho Laem, Bangkok 10120, Thailand
Opening hours: Everyday except Thursday from 730am to 430pm
One of the reasons why I stay at Capella Bangkok as Kuay Jab Mr Joe is only a short walk away. They are famous for their crispy pork belly and kway chap/kuay Jab like our style but served in stronger peppery soup. You will always see many people standing in front of the store but they are waiting for takeaway. So if you are dining in then you can just walk in a get a seat. The waitress will hand over a menu to you. If you enter from the main entrance, you can see many pork belly and they are so crispy and you want to order more. They are also available for food delivery if you are unable to come over.

Old Town DIY Perfume Experience! Create Your Own Unique Fragrance at Thai Scent and Enjoy the Full Ritual!
While researching travel information about Thailand, I stumbled upon a YouTuber named Xiao Jiang's video, which mentioned a DIY perfume shop in the old town called Thai Scent. I've always had an irresistible love for fragrances, and the idea of creating my own perfume here immediately ignited my excitement. Even better, the experience is quite affordable, and it perfectly fits into my planned old town exploration. So, without hesitation, I added it to my itinerary!
For transportation, I recommend taking the express boat on the Khlong Saen Saep canal to the Panfa Leelard Pier terminal. The one-way ticket costs only THB 14, and the boat ride takes about 15 minutes. From there, it's just a 3-minute walk to Thai Scent, making it very convenient.
Although I tried to make a reservation in advance but failed, I took the boat to the perfume workshop at 10 AM on the day of my visit. When I arrived, I was lucky to find that no one had booked the shop, so I could start my DIY experience right away! The shop actually recommends making a reservation in advance, and I was fortunate to get a spot without one. By the way, you can make reservations through Thai Scent's Facebook page, and the owner speaks Chinese, which is very convenient.
Currently, Thai Scent offers a special experience price of only THB 799, allowing you to create your own 30ml perfume. Once the owner had everything prepared, I began selecting my favorite scents from the myriad of fragrance bottles. The best part is that you can choose freely from top notes, middle notes, and base notes without any restrictions. The shop also provides a detailed DM that introduces each fragrance, making it easy to reference. If your nose gets tired during the selection process, you can smell the coffee beans provided in the shop to reset your senses, which is very thoughtful.
The shop also offers a plate of snacks and water, allowing you to take a break while choosing. However, I was so eager to complete my perfume that I didn't have time to enjoy the snacks and jumped straight into the creation process.
During the selection process, I would drop my preferred scents onto small paper cards, confirm them one by one, and record them on the memo paper provided by the shop. Then, I combined all the selected fragrance cards and smelled the final combination. This moment felt like mixing a magical potion just for myself, filled with a sense of ritual.
The blending process requires adding 90 drops of fragrance into the mixing bottle, then filling it with alcohol up to 30ml, and stirring it evenly. This completes a bottle of unique perfume. The shop also helps print labels and provides various decorative stickers, allowing me to design the bottle beautifully, making me feel like a perfume designer giving the final touch to my creation.
Once everything is designed, the perfume is packed in a delicate box and bag, making the whole process enjoyable and fulfilling. Note that the freshly made perfume should be left to sit for three days to allow the scents to fully blend before use, ensuring the best fragrance experience.
Throughout the experience, the owner frequently checked in and offered assistance, making me feel very warm and welcomed. As I was leaving, she even gave me a 2ml sample perfume, which made me feel very touched and appreciated.
Lastly, the shop also sells various fragrance-related products, so even if you don't participate in the DIY activity, you can still shop for some great items. The overall environment is simple and elegant, with a very comfortable atmosphere that makes you feel relaxed. If you have the chance to visit the old town, be sure to include this shop in your itinerary. Creating your own perfume is perfect for gifts or personal use!
Of course, remember to make a reservation through Facebook in advance to avoid missing out on this wonderful DIY experience!
Bangkok | The Quarter By UHG by the Chao Phraya River
A spontaneous trip to Thailand, booked the flight and hotel just one day before departure.
Trip's convenient operation allowed me to find good flights and hotels in a very short time,
and I discovered this hidden gem of a hotel, which provided great relaxation during my trip.
Due to recent work stress, I initially planned to visit Boracay,
but after calculating, I found that the total cost of the trip was almost the same as going to Bangkok 😂
Since I could go abroad, I decided to go abroad (working in the Philippines 🇵🇭)
After all, I still had unfinished business from my last trip to Thailand 🤣
This hotel is right next to Icon Siam, just a 5-minute walk from the end of the Gold Line MRT,
which is very convenient.
The hotel has its own Lek Massage 💆 and Lawson convenience store.
The lobby has an automatic currency exchange machine, a car rental tour desk, and a nail salon.
There is also a Casa Lapin chain coffee shop
and a Tao Bin automatic Thai milk tea vending machine that I love
(although it was out of stock during my three-day stay 😒).
The overall convenience is truly amazing 😍
And the decor style is exactly what I like,
I felt relaxed as soon as I arrived at the hotel.
Great value for money, and the breakfast was delicious 😋
