Pay homage to Phra Phuttha Wachira Mongkut at Wat Makut Kasattriyaram.

🏞 After the excavation of the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem as the outer moat of the city, King Rama IV had the idea to have temples lined along the canal to resemble Ayutthaya. 🏰 Wat Makut Kasattriyaram Ratchaworawihan, a second-class royal monastery, was built alongside Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan and completed in 1868. It was initially called Wat Nam Banthat and later renamed Wat Makut Kasattriyaram. 🙏 It is said that this temple was the last royal monastery built by King Rama IV before his death. 🏰 The vihara and ubosot feature the royal crown emblem of King Rama IV on the gables and above the door and window arches. 🙏 Inside the main vihara, there is the principal Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Wachira Mongkut, in a meditation posture. 🛕 The white chedi enshrines the Buddha's relics. Once, the chedi collapsed due to a severe lightning strike.
