Wat Protsat Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Wat Protsat was established in the year 1692 and received royal patronage in 1702. According to history, there was a skilled sorcerer who enchanted a skeleton to become a floating elephant that drifted along the Chao Phraya River and became stuck in front of the temple. As the enchanted elephant passed by the area, many villagers fell ill. Those who were sick learned of the abbot's sacred holy water and traveled in large numbers to request it. The abbot walked to the front of the chapel, pointed to the Chao Phraya River in front of the chapel, and said that the holy water was in that water. The villagers then scooped water from in front of the temple to cure their sick relatives, who recovered completely. From then on, the temple was named "Wat Protsat." During the Ayutthaya period, it was once a place for accommodating envoys from Lanka. Even when sending monks and diplomats to Lanka during the reign of King Boromakot, this temple was used as a dispatch and reception point.
