Shennong Stream

Shennong Stream is located at the junction of the Xiling Gorge and Wu Gorge of the Yangtze River, on the north bank of Badong County. It originates from the southern slope of Shennongjia National Nature Reserve and is a perennial stream with a total length of 60 km. It flows from north to south with an average annual flow of 20 cubic meters per second. Along the way, it receives 17 tributaries and flows into the Yangtze River at Xirangkou, 2.5 km west of the mouth of Wu Gorge, on the opposite bank of the new county seat of Badong. It has a drainage area of 1,031 square kilometers, a total scenic area of 300 square kilometers, and a forest coverage rate of over 85%. The entrance to Shennong Stream Scenic Area is at Xirangkou. Going upstream, the main stream has four gorges: Longchang Gorge, Parrot Gorge, Shennong Gorge, and Mianzhu Gorge.
