Tianhuangping Town, Anji, Huzhou
"Those who soar like kites in the sky find peace in the mountains; those entangled in worldly affairs forget their troubles when gazing into the valley." - This verse from the Southern Dynasty poet Wu Jun inspired the name of "Kaichen Xixinlu." Nestled within the bamboo forests of Tianhuangping Town, Anji, it's more than just a homestay; it's a sanctuary where you can reconnect with nature. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the homestay is reached via a winding mountain road through bamboo groves. The gentle murmur of the stream and the swirling mists evoke a sense of nostalgia, like returning to a childhood memory of grandma's house.
Originally a century-old village, the homestay has been transformed by a designer from the China Academy of Art, preserving the traditional textures of rammed earth walls and grey tiles while incorporating a modern minimalist style. Seven independent houses are scattered along the mountainside, each named after a theme such as "Pillow Mountain, Listen to the Spring" or "Tracing Back to the Roots." The windows frame picturesque views of the bamboo sea, streams, and distant mountains. This artful blend of nature and culture has earned the homestay the "Best Hotel Design" award. The restaurant embraces the philosophy of "local sourcing," using ingredients from the homestay's garden and gifts from mountain dwellers: tender bamboo shoots stewed with local chicken in spring, fresh mountain stream fish in summer, plump rice paddy crabs in autumn, and warm rice wine by the fire in winter. The signature clay-baked bamboo forest chicken, slow-cooked for hours, boasts tender meat and rich broth. Wild mountain vegetables and homemade tofu add to the authentic rural flavor. The restaurant can accommodate over 30 people, making it perfect for team building events and gatherings.
