Wat Sangkratai, Ang Thong

Wat Sangkratai is located in Sala Daeng Subdistrict. It was originally named Wat Sam Kratai. This temple is about 2 kilometers from Ang Thong city center. The founder of this temple was Thuat Ti Chantanasawi (the mother of Phra Haskal). In the past, monks resided here, but over time, disagreements among the monks led to a decline in public faith, and eventually, no one wanted to make merit at this temple. It became abandoned with no monks residing there. Currently, only the old chapel remains, with just the walls left standing, covered and held together by four Bodhi trees. The roots of these trees have grown to cover and support the chapel walls at all four corners, which is quite remarkable. The chapel has three rooms, with the central room housing the principal Buddha image and two smaller Buddha statues. The unseen corner of this temple is the window that perfectly aligns with the Buddha image and the walls supported by the Bodhi tree roots. To get there, from the Asian Highway, turn into Ang Thong city, continue straight, cross the Chao Phraya River bridge, go through the market, and continue straight until you reach the red light intersection (prison intersection). Turn right past Ang Thong Prison, go straight, and you will see a PTT gas station on the left. Make a U-turn, and you will see the Wat Sangkratai sign on the left. Then, turn left into Sala Daeng Subdistrict Municipality alley for about 500 meters to reach Wat Sangkratai.
