Beggar chicken wrapped in baked soil

#bestchinesefood There are many Chinese dishes that are slowly disappearing from sight as decades pass. Beggar chicken is one of them, which involves some messy and troublesome process of wrapping the chicken in soil then baking it. Though some would argue it’s no longer necessary to make it this way with today’s technology, but as a matter of fact it’s quite a culture to experience. Luckily this place in KL still serves it. It has one whole backyard dedicated to it. But one needs to prebook one day in advance. Do not walk in for that. Besides beggar chicken, it also serves other dishes, some of which are quite unique, eg soup in melon, black chicken soup, chopped boneless fish (Saba?) etc. All dishes taste fine, I would not say it’s mindblowing. But you can’t find many of the dishes elsewhere.
