A Stage Through Time: The Amman Roman Theater

Carved into the northern slopes of Jabal Al- Jofeh in Amman, the Roman Theater stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Built during the reign of Roman emperor Antoninus Pius, the theater served as a center for entertainment and public gatherings during the Roman era (63 BC - 324 CE). The theater boasts an impressive architectural design. Its horseshoe-shaped auditorium, with a capacity of approximately 6,000 spectators, is divided into three tiers: the ima cavea (lowest tier) for high-ranking officials, the media cavea (middle tier) for the middle class, and the summa cavea (top tier) for the general public.
