The oldest bridge across the Douro River

Spain Westbound ~ Zamora (Region) The Toro Roman Bridge, known as Puente Mayor, is the oldest bridge across the Douro River near the city of Toro and was built on the remains of an ancient Roman bridge. The bridge has twenty-two pointed arches and the pavement is covered with a road paved with large stone slabs. It suffered several collapses and was repaired on rare occasions. Its two arches were blew up by Napoleon's troops during their retreat during the Revolutionary War and were later rebuilt. You can stroll along the nearly 300-meter-long river and admire the Douro River with its abundant water flow.
