Manuha Temple
My favorite Temple in Bagan, (and there are many), but this one gave me a sense of wonderment. It seemed to be a bigger building on the inside than the outside. Each room you entered seemed to contain a more spectacular setting. Monstrously sized Buddhas in amazingly small enclosures, with sometimes claustrophobic style pathways, intertwining around these iconic figures. Too much!!
Their are several other significant buildings related to the Temple surrounding the site, and it's worth a walk around the grounds just to take it in, if not snap a couple of more pics. If there was ever a photogenic country, Myanmar is it.
The Temple site is between Old Bagan and New Bagan, and as it's a religious site, you'll be experiencing this Temple bare footed. No shoes, no socks. You can leave your shoes by the entry steps, or in the provided shelves by the entry. Some people, when visiting religious sites that require removal of one's shoes, leave the shoes in their backpacks, and don a pair of flip flops, as cool shoes can fetch a good price on the black market I'm told. Just sayin'. I however didn't practice this, and frequently just walked from the bus to the site, and encountered no problems.
A bevy of local sales booths are set up just outside the Temple, and everything from souvenirs to Diet Coke is available.
