If you’re craving a peaceful getaway without the stress of rushing around, Kampot and Kep make the perfect combo. We took a 3-day, 4-night trip (really just two full days of activity) and it was the ideal balance between relaxation and exploration. 📅 Itinerary Day1: Phnom Penh to Kampot The drive took just 3–4 hours. We didn’t pack anything hectic into the day—just grabbed a coffee at Starbucks Kampot and chilled there with a river view. Great way to ease into the trip. Day2: Bokor Mountain Adventure We headed up Bokor Mountain. It was misty and cold, giving everything a magical vibe. We explored the Vietnamese-Chinese temple, Buddha statues, and some old French colonial ruins. The mountain view is absolutely worth the ride—breathtaking, even in the haze. Day3: Seaside in Kep A quick 40-minute ride brought us to Kep Beach where we relaxed and soaked up the coastal calm. We had lunch at The Wave Kep West—the view? Stunning. The food? Delicious. It’s a little on the pricey side (around $200 for 6 people), but honestly, it was worth every dollar. Day4:Easy Drive Back No rush. Interesting place to visit as this joint obviously has a significant history and a lot of development that have just been walked away from and left abandoned. We did this via Motor Scooter, in my view the best way. We hired our 125cc scooter from Tree Travel Tours in the middle of Kampot. It cost us $5 US for the bike and a total of $2.50 US in fuel. The ride is 42kms from town, the first 10kms on the main road and then you enter the National Park for free and wind your way up through the monkeys and some very nice scenery. You have to leave your passport as a deposit for the bike but I had no issues whatsoever, nice family business and a very helpful proprietor. The bike was in good shape. I don’t know about jumping on tourist buses, that might not be your best day out, but certainly an option and glad we did it by scooter. A must-see designation a short drive outside of Kampot especially on a sunny day but it is equally enjoyable on a foggy overcast day. Under either weather scenario be sure to bring a lightweight coat and perhaps wear pants as it is very, very windy on Bokor Mountain and it can get quite chilly at times. Plan on spending at least half a day viewing the many sites on Bokor Mountain including an interesting Wat, a Catholic Church and one of the King’s former residences. Best of all are the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. We took a tuk tuk from Kampot to view the sites. The area was filled with people paying their respects, lighting incense, and offerings, creating a truly devotional atmosphere. 🙌 Sacredness and Legend "Ya Ma," or Lok Yeay Mao, is considered a guardian deity of the sea, mountains, and travelers by land and water. Fishermen and sailors, in particular, believe that praying to Ya Ma will ensure safe travels. I started my journey with a visit to Bokor Mountain, a mystical highland that looms over Kampot. The drive up was breathtaking, with mist-covered roads and lush greenery stretching as far as the eye could see. At the summit, I explored the eerie yet fascinating Bokor Hill Station, a relic from the French colonial era. The abandoned church and grand old casino, both weathered by time, added to the mountain’s ghostly allure. The view from the peak was mesmerizing, offering a panoramic sight of Kampot, the coastline, and even Phu Quoc Island on a clear day. Next, I ventured to Phnom Tek Thom, a hidden gem known for its serene atmosphere and spiritual significance.
