Stepping through the Noon Gate feels like entering another world: majestic, ancient, yet incredibly poetic. 🏯 Inside the Imperial City, there are many remarkable structures such as the Thai Hoa Palace and the Noon Gate. Each place showcases traditional architecture with golden-tiled roofs, dragon and phoenix motifs, and intricate carvings ✨. Strolling around the lotus ponds and admiring moss-covered walls under the afternoon sunlight brings a serene and indescribable sense of antiquity 🌿. 👘 A unique experience is renting traditional Vietnamese attire to wear while visiting the Imperial City. I rented mine at Hoang Anh shop (45 Le Huan Street), with prices ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 VND per outfit. The shop owners were incredibly kind. Since my homestay was nearby, they even gave me a ride straight to the entrance after I tried on the outfit. Wearing traditional attire in the palace not only fits the setting but also makes for stunning photos 📷. 💰 Admission to the Imperial City is 200,000 VND for adults, with discounted rates for children and students. To fully immerse yourself, it's recommended to spend at least 2–3 hours exploring all the structures. 👉 Hue Imperial City is not just a tourist destination; it's a journey into history, a chance to transform into someone from the past in traditional Vietnamese attire, and an opportunity to feel the tranquil and solemn essence of this ancient capital ✨.

This trip to Hue was quite short as it was part of my 5-day journey through Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An. However, I had some beautiful moments here and will definitely return to explore more of Hue. The people here are very friendly, the food is affordable, and the scenery brings a sense of peace.

If you are looking for a place to "touch" history and immerse yourself in the ancient space, then Hue Imperial City is definitely a stop not to be missed when coming to the ancient capital. I just had the opportunity to visit here and was really attracted by the grandeur but still very quiet, making every step feel like being lost in the golden past of the Nguyen Dynasty. Hue Imperial City is a cluster of relics including the Imperial City (where the king held court and worked) and the Forbidden Purple City (where the king and the royal family lived). The Imperial City includes Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace. The Forbidden Purple City is an area reserved for the king and the royal family, including Dai Cung Mon, Ta Vu and Huu Vu, Can Chanh Palace, Thai Binh Lau, Dien Tho Palace... You should go early to avoid the harsh sunlight and have more time to visit because the Imperial City is quite large and easy to get lost. The weather in April when I went, Hue was quite hot, the sun was scary but the photos were beautiful. June-August will probably be even hotter. If you want to see Hue poetic and sad, you can go in September-October. We visited Thuy Xuan Incense Village in Hue and were instantly drawn in by the colors and scent of handmade incense. It was so much fun exploring the village, trying different types of incense, and chatting with local artisans. We took tons of photos, but more than that, we truly appreciated the cultural beauty and tradition behind each stick of incense.

Get to Hue by train is very enjoyable trip, the train will take you through Hai Van pass, run by the ocean and let you slowly enjoy the view. They will make one stop in Lang Co Bay and you are allowed to get out, have a look at the view and buy some snacks called “bánh bột lọc” (the 5th picture). It’s really good. By night, you can enjoy the live traditional Vietnam music on the dragon boat in Huong river. The train ticket costs 190k VND (~8€) for one way trip. We chose Cafe Mémorie Railway French Cafe☕️. The cafe itself is a century-old French building with a colonial-style exterior. It combines watching trains and drinking coffee. In short, it is a tourist attraction built for tourists, allowing multiple experiences to be satisfied at once. The decoration of the cafe is very eye-catching. No matter which angle you take photos from, they look good, and every photo is a wonderful one. In addition to coffee and tea, Cafe Mémorie also provides cakes, snacks, and ice cream. It is located next to the Hue Railway Station and you can hear the sound of trains passing by. It is really a great cafe.

The Imperial Citadel Hue, an ancient palace, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Its design is similar to the Forbidden City in China. It is one of the most important landmarks and a must-visit when traveling to Hue. To visit the Imperial Citadel Hue, an entrance fee is required. Tickets can be purchased at the front ticket booth. For those who have a combo ticket for multiple attractions, you can present it at the gate for entry. We couldn't find the entrance and only took pictures from the outside. The atmosphere is very serene.

When choosing an incense shop to take pictures, we can look at the layout of each shop. If we like the one that has a beautiful layout and makes great photos, we can park at that shop. Taking pictures is free, but if you want to buy incense from the locals, because we took pictures in their shop, we can buy some as souvenirs to take home. But if you come here and want to get original Vietnamese-style photos, the shop also has Vietnamese-style outfits for us to rent and wear to take photos in the forest. I highly recommend it for people who like taking photos because the locals are very nice. They are good at cheering and selling. They also let us take photos from any angle we want without any time limit until we are satisfied. I must say that the rental price is only ten baht, but the service is worth millions. I just had a visit to Hue. This is a wonderful city, worth visiting. Besides the majestic tombs, there are also extremely attractive dishes.
