900 Years of History At Laugharne Castle, A Little Welsh Wonder.
Wales is full of historic places and its famous for its castles, a perfect example of this is Laugharne castle in Carmarthenshire. The castle dates back over 900 years and has its routes in 1116, having a varied history over that time and managing to stay relatively intact!
It is located on the estuary of the river Taf and looks out over the Bristol Channel, its imposing structure stands out along the quiet and serene coastline.
It has links to Owain Glyndwr, the civil war and most recently
To the famed poet and writer Dylan Thomas who lived nearby for a time.
The castle is open between April and November and has an entrance fee to help with restoration. It’s worth the price to see such a stunning example of Welsh history!
There is onsite parking and it is wheelchair accessible. Prices start at £6.50 for adults and £20 for family groups.

These images were captured on a day trip with Social Services. We had three hours to look around. There is plenty to see and do. Refectory and gift shops on site. I started off with a short walk through the Arboretum and from there you have a number of options. The full circuit of the estate takes about 2 hours on foot. I managed to visit the main points of interest in the time given but I would say that you'd need more time if you wanted to see everything. The walk around the large glass house was the highlight of my visit. Rare and endangered plants from six areas of the world can be found here. They have recreated the arid and sub tropical climates from different parts of the world in this huge greenhouse.
