Short Break to Kuching
We went for a short three days trip in Kuching, Sarawak. It was one and a half hours flight from BKI to touch down the Cat City. We started off by having our breakfast of the famous Laksa. Then headed to The Waterfront strolling along the river bank, followed by visit to the newly opened Borneo Cultural Village. Second day we drove to Serikin Town Border Market to walk around and see how a border market operates. Had our late lunch at Siniawan Night Market before going back to the main town. On our last day, we went on a shopping spree of kek lapis and some souvenirs before catch our flight back to Sabah.
Best Wifey Pastry @Blueberry Cake House
Not really a fan of Wifey pastry (老婆饼 ) usually, but it is indeed a must try! It is so fragrant, chewy, the right level of softness/firmness and not too flaky. The pastries were freshly baked and heavenly tasty. It’s a must in the to-do-list when visiting the historical and harmonious Bau Town. Great varieties of cakes and pastries offered here. Price was standard.Highly recommended. 👍.

Wind Cave
Very easy trail to the cave. Entrance fee is RM1 for Malaysians. Sandals and slippers are prohibited but you can rent a pair of shoes on the spot at RM 3 per person.
Remember to bring touch light or handphone as it is complete dark inside the cave. Many bats and swiftlets hanging on the top of the cave. A bit slippery and you need to wear proper shoes to allow entry into the cave. It take 30 minutes to complete the walking course. Highly recommended!

Serikin Weekend Market 🛤️
Only 40-50 minutes drive from the city, make your way down to the Serikin Weekend Market which as it’s name describes, is only open during the weekends. Locals and Indonesians alike set up their booths to sell a variety of products such as textiles, kerepek (crunchy crackers), dried food products, rattan furniture and loads more! But be sure to wear sunscreen or bring along umbrellas to protect yourself from the scorching heat! #urbanexplorer

Paku Rock Maze Garden
Amazing Rocks formation!
It's just by the roadside along with a temple.(石王庙)Free entrance (donation to the temple maintaining it is welcomed). Can be visited along with several other tourist spots in Bau, Kuching. If you have friends come for short trip, can bring them here along the way to explore Bau attractions like wind cave, fairy cave, blue lake and Sinawan Night Market.
Nice rock garden and suitable for people who enjoys looking at rocks. This place has a lot of shade amongst trees and rocks so no problem to go at noon.
It is not far from kuching Town. Definitely worth visiting.
Tasik Biru leisurely boat ride
Tasik Biru Bihu, take a picture on a duck boat! Tickets are RM10. If you don't ride the boat, you can get two more cans of free drinks at the restaurant with your ticket. It's cheap👌.
Recommendation index 2 stars, considered a good choice for hanging around Shilongmen ~ best for families or with friends, especially if you have a plan to go to the nearby fairy cave, you might as well come and play!
But if you go purely for Bihu specifically, it may not be worth it ~ weekend crowds are not much, you can chill and play slowly, the scenery is quite beautiful, occasionally blowing the lake breeze is quite comfortable 😌.

Looking for an underrated escape? 🌊 Bau’s Tasik Biru is your shortcut to scenery heaven — ideal for anyone craving chill vibes and gorgeous views. This spot is perfect if you just want to chill out and breathe in some beauty.
Must-See Place: Tasik Biru
Come anytime — the lake’s open year-round, 24/7! Just set your maps to No 113 Highfields, 2, Jalan Batu Kawa, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The blue-hued water is mesmerizing, and the backdrop of lush green hills makes it insta-worthy from every angle. I stopped by for a quick break and ended up staying way longer than expected. Bring a picnic, snap some photos, or simply soak up the serene setting.
Pro Traveler Tip:
I found that Tasik Biru is a super satisfying pick for a laid-back trip. No crowds, no rush. Perfect for winding down or escaping the city for a few hours. If you're after an easy, satisfying mini-adventure, don’t skip this!

Bau might
Bau might fly under the radar, but my latest escape mixed relaxed hotel vibes with bargain hunting! 🛏️🛍️ Start with Roxy Hotel Siniawan—the place to crash if you want a super clean, comfy room and speedy Wi-Fi. The hotel’s location basically lands you in the middle of Bau’s best: walkable to Siniawan Night Market and just minutes from Bau Town. There’s free water bottles, a water heater for those all-important coffee moments, and a modern, brand-new feel (smart TV, elevator, and big rooms = win!).
The next morning, it was off to Pasar Serikin for some serious street market action. Address: Serikin Weekend Street Market, Serikin—open Saturdays and Sundays, but get there EARLY (stuff goes fast and parking is easier). Snag everything from cheap local crafts to textiles; prices here really are better than in the city! My tip: Pack cash, haggle politely, and bring some sun protection—it gets toasty.
Getting around Bau is simple: GRAB rides are reliable, or self-drive if you’ve got wheels. Looking for food? Check out eateries near Siniawan Square and the night market for simple Sarawakian dishes—laksa and kolo mee come highly recommended. No visa hassle for Malaysians, but always carry some small notes for market purchases.
If you want a spot that feels homey but still gets you close to Bau’s highlights, Roxy Hotel Siniawan nails it—and Pasar Serikin is THE place for weekend shopping therapy!

Short Gateways that bring you closer to peace nature ~ Kuching
Nestled along the banks of the Sarawak River, Kuching is a city that whispers stories of heritage, wilderness, and quiet magic. My recent journey there felt fullness of life and recharge with the nature touch and people’s warmth.
Hosting a big group of friends stepping first time into my hometown, they enjoyed the art of slowdowns cityscape, majestic Neo-gothic Roman Catholic Church, climbing up mysterious Fairy Cave to look for the clues, showering in the breezy air at beach side and wake up by the peaceful sunrise from the sea lines far far away….

Fairy cave exploring
Went to explore the fairy cave at Kuching Sarawak. Trekked along the twilight trail. Overall took about 1hr as we rest when we can. Very nice cave but need decent stamina to climb the steep steps. Rental of the torchlight is highly recommended as it can be dark at the top. Able to see some bats flying around if lucky. Overall is a good experiment for those who want to explore caves in Sarawak Kuching. #travel #kuching #malaysia
