Aeolian Islands – off Sicily’s north coast
The Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago and UNESCO World Heritage Site known for their raw beauty and geological uniqueness. Islands like Stromboli, with its active volcano, and Lipari, with charming towns, offer everything from black sand beaches to thermal springs. Sailing among them is a highlight, with each island presenting its own culture and character. These islands are perfect for sea lovers and slow travelers seeking authentic Sicilian experiences.

Aeolian Islands – Lipari
#summervacay
Lipari felt like the heartbeat of the Aeolians: colorful town, black-rock beaches, and bougainvillea on every corner. I climbed to the castle ruins for sweeping views, then relaxed with granita at sunset overlooking Vesuvius across the sea. I rented a scooter the next day and chased views of white pumice cliffs and hot springs. It’s volcanic, vibrant, and full of summer life. A perfect island base.

Vulcano Island (Aeolian Islands)
#summervacay
Vulcano smells of sulfur, looks like Mars, and somehow still manages to be totally beautiful. I hiked up the crater early in the morning — the views of the Aeolian Islands from the top were unbelievable. Afterward, I relaxed in the famous mud baths and then swam in the warm, bubbly sea. It’s wild, therapeutic, and unforgettable. You feel like you’re experiencing Earth in its most primal state. Not glamorous, but oh so worth it.

boat ride from Messina to Panarea and Stromboli
Panarea was beautiful and reminded me of Santorini Greece with its white buildings. There were many restataunts and shops to enjoy.
The ferry ride to Panarea was beautiful and was about 1.5 hours. We had 2 hours to explore Panarea.
We proceeded to Stromboli which was an hour ferry ride. We had 2 hours free on Stromboli which was enough time to walk to a black sand beach, swim in the beautiful blue water and grab a drink afterwards. We didn't get to see the Stromboli eruptions because the clouds were covering the top of the volcano but nonetheless it was an incredible experience. #travel #couplestrip #beachlife #thingstodo #myitinerary
