Yongqing Temple, located in the old town of Chengmai County, Hainan Province, is the largest Buddhist temple in northern Hainan. Originally built during the Song Dynasty, it serves as a sacred place for local people to worship and pray. The temple enjoys great popularity and attracts a constant stream of visitors year-round.
Yongqing Temple boasts a dignified, elegant, and rustic architectural style. With its fresh air, beautiful surroundings, and pleasant scenery, it has attracted many historical figures, including the renowned Northern Song Dynasty writer Su Dongpo, who visited the temple many times to worship Buddha and left behind inspiring poems.
The temple grounds are filled with plants associated with Buddhist culture, such as Bodhi trees, Corypha palms, betel nut trees, Manjusaka flowers, and lotuses. These plants highlight the greenery and the mysterious majesty of the Buddhist world, creating a solemn and serene atmosphere that evokes a sense of harmony between heaven, earth, humanity, and Buddha.
The main halls within the temple include the Mahavira Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Samantabhadra Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, and the Sutra Depository. The 42 jade Buddha statues in the temple are meticulously carved from Burmese white jade and have received 13 Guinness World Records and other awards.
The back gate of Yongqing Temple leads directly to the seaside, where the clear waters and charming scenery await. Around the temple, visitors can find coffee, Zen tea, and vegetarian food.
