Putuo temple, aka the “Little Potala Palace”
Getting There - The best and easiest way is to go there by car / taxi.

Hidden Treasure
This hotel was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint.
We traveled to Chengde by train from Beijing and then took a taxi to the hotel. The staff were available on WeChat to answer any questions we had.
Once we arrived we were show to our room which was across from the pool and deck. The view was perfect and the infinity pool cool and perfect for swimming and taking in the view.
We ate all our meals at the hotel and the food was delicious. There were friendly dogs in the gardens. during the evening and on the weekends, the gardens filled up with visitors coming for a barbecue dinner, so grab a table early! After dinner we went for walks nearby.
This was the perfect outdoor weekend getaway from Beijing. Super peaceful and delicious 😋

Chengde, China
Now that there is a high speed train right from Beijing you can get to Chengde in about an hour making it a great day trip. I was supposed to go to Tibet earlier in the year and Covid put a stop to that. Chengde was a great alternative. I would suggest starting the day at some of the temples around town, there are a few large ones up on the hills. Then heading to town, there were a few flee markets where you can go shopping and get a few extremely heavy Buddhist statues (why I suggest doing it later in the day). Unfortunately we had plans of exploring the rest of town later on but rain clouds appeared out of nowhere so we called a didi to take us back to the train station.
Chengde - Hidden Gem: 北京 wkend getaway
Getting There - The fast train from Beijing takes 1 hour.
Attractions - Peace, quiet, nature, walks, village life

Super cool city, nice breeze , many exiting street food with good taste.. colorful buildings and nice scenic spots
potalaka - means small potala, is actually a copy of the original Potala palace from Lhasa. it's almost the same as on the picture of 50 rmb, as u can see. this place is huge. usually I don't like to go with guided groups but this time I had to so I didn't have time to really look around. it was very stupid to go with the group, bit at least the guide was good and told lots of stories some of them may not be true though.

wow, so Chengde is the place I remember as official place where I first (and hopefully the last) time tried donkey meat (sorry vegans) actually I didn't know what kind of meat it was and it was surprisingly delicious but when I asked whether it was beef or pork I was answered that it was donkey. It appears that donkeys ate usual food here. nevertheless I have to admit I like Hebei food a lot and got used to it as well. certainly recommend this place.

This manor is very beautiful...
We went to Chengde again this summer. Although we got points deducted for driving over the line, the beautiful scenery here is still unforgettable. The Mountain Resort is the most important attraction in Chengde. This garden was a royal manor in the past. The landscape paintings in the Mountain Resort are very beautiful. It should be a good choice to visit here in summer.
Check in at Fengshan Guandi Temple in Chengde, Hebei.
Family, Fengshan Guandi Temple is checked in! The feeling here is really shocking!! A glance at the vicissitudes of history for thousands of years, let me instantly travel to ancient times!
Fengshan Guandi Temple is located in Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province. It is a Taoist temple with a history of nearly a thousand years.
It was built in the Yuan Dynasty and was repaired and expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, forming the current scale. The entire temple is built on the mountain, with a well-arranged and magnificent momentum, especially under the sun, it is even more golden.
Entering the temple, the first thing that catches your eye is a tall mountain gate. The plaque of "Fengshan Guandi Temple" hangs above the mountain gate. On both sides is a couplet, which reads "Fengshan Zhongxiu, Dimiao Zenghui", which means that this is a geomantic treasure and a sacred temple.
Entering the mountain gate is a long corridor. On both sides of the corridor are various stone carvings and inscriptions. The most eye-catching is a huge stone turtle carrying the "Fengshan Guandi Temple Stele". The inscription records the history and architectural features of the temple in detail. It is an important cultural relic for studying Fengshan Guandi Temple.
Walking along the corridor, you will come to the square in front of the main hall. There is a huge incense burner on the square. The incense burner is filled with incense and the fragrance is tangy. On both sides of the square are the bell tower and the drum tower. A huge bronze bell hangs on the bell tower. Every important festival or sacrificial activity, the bronze bell will ring, the sound is loud, and it spreads throughout the temple.
The main hall is the main building of the temple and the most sacred place. The statue of Guan Yu is enshrined in the hall. The statue is several meters high, majestic and majestic, which makes people awe-inspiring. On both sides of the hall are the statues of Guan Ping and Zhou Cang. They are Guan Yu's loyal followers and are also enshrined here.
On both sides of the hall are some side halls, where various statues are enshrined, including the Jade Emperor, Taishang Laojun, Queen Mother and so on. Each statue is lifelike, which makes people can't help but admire the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient craftsmen.
Walking in the temple, you can feel the vicissitudes of history and the heaviness of culture. This is not only a temple, but also a treasure trove of history and culture, which makes people linger and reluctant to leave.
Family, if you also like history and culture, you might as well come to Fengshan Guandi Temple to check in! This will definitely make your trip worthwhile!
Chengde Shuangta Mountain is truly a marvel of nature.
Chengde Shuangta Mountain Guide:
Attraction Introduction:
Shuangta Mountain: Located 10 kilometers southwest of Chengde Mountain Resort in Hebei Province, it is one of the famous mountains in Chengde. The mountain is strange, the water is strange, the forest is strange, the stone is strange, the tower is strange, and the cave is strange. The ingenious workmanship of nature has created a strange natural landscape. The two ancient towers on the top of Shuangta Peak have a history of more than 1,300 years and were built by the Khitan people, adding a mysterious color to the entire scenic area.
Travel Tips:
Transportation: You can take bus No. 5 or No. 15 from Chengde City to Shuangta Mountain Scenic Area. Self-driving tour can drive along the Shidongzigou Yuanbao Line in the city to the Ding Sheng Dynasty, then turn left into Binhe East Road, and drive about 2 kilometers to reach.
Tickets: The ticket for Shuangta Mountain Scenic Area is CNY 50/person.
Tour Route: After entering the scenic area, you can start climbing. The mountain road is gentle, and you can reach the foot of Shuangta Peak in about 10 minutes. You can also choose to take the cable car, CNY 50/person for round trip, and CNY 30/person for one way.
Precautions: There are many wild macaques on the mountain, please do not approach to avoid being attacked.
Nearby Recommendations:
After visiting Shuangta Mountain, you can go to Chengde Mountain Resort to experience the grandeur and exquisiteness of the royal garden.
The royal garden of Chengde Mountain Resort.
The autumn scenery of Chengde Mountain Resort is picturesque. It is the largest existing royal garden in the world and the summer palace of the Manchu royal family. In 1961, it was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit. Its architecture is rich in color and diverse in style, harmonizing with the natural environment, and showing the perfect integration of the southern and northern landscapes.
Bifeng Temple in Chengde Mountain Resort.
Looking at the ruins in the Mountain Resort, imagine the grandeur of the past.
Chengde Mountain Resort is the largest royal garden in China, twice the size of the Summer Palace and eight times the size of Beihai Park. The landscapes that we see today are mainly concentrated in the palace area and the lake area, and the mountain area, which accounts for 80% of the resort area, is currently lackluster and there are not many attractions. In fact, there were many large temples and Taoist temples in the mountain area of the Mountain Resort in history.
Today I will introduce Bifeng Temple. Bifeng Temple originally had a stone bridge, a mountain gate, a Heavenly King Hall, left and right bell and drum towers, a main hall, a sutra building, a Ganwei Book House, a Congbi Building, and a Huixi Pavilion. Every time Emperor Qianlong came to this temple, he would take its stream water to make tea. Every morning at the hour of the rabbit, officials in the garden would ring the bell to tell the time.
At present, only some stone architectural relics remain, and a pavilion has been rebuilt.
Pule Temple.
Pule Temple, also known as "Yuantingzi", is located on the east bank of the Wulie River in Chengde City.
Built in the 31st year of Qianlong (1766),
Xuguang Pavilion is the main building of Pule Temple. Its double-eave round roof is similar to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. There is a round caisson on the top of the pavilion, with dragon and phoenix patterns, and a golden dragon playing with a pearl is carved in the center of the caisson.
Zongyin Hall, with a double-eave hip roof, the ridge of the hall is made of colored glazed tiles into a cloud dragon pattern, there is a large glazed pagoda in the middle of the ridge, and there are glazed "eight treasures" reliefs on the side of the hall. …
This temple is very quiet. It is suitable for taking photos and checking in.
Tourist check-in museum ignites the Chinese people/knowledge!
🚩At present, checking in at museums in travel destinations has become a choice for many people, especially cities with history/stories that make tourists tireless. 🏮Chengde City, a popular tourist destination represented by the Summer Resort, the Outer Eight Temples, and the Qiangchi Peak, the museum also welcomes full visitors, and the venue service is also in place.
👁️Looking at the current museum, you know why it is attractive. The rich collection of cultural relics not only increases knowledge while understanding history, but also 🪐AI/VR with scientific and technological content. The three-dimensional immersive experience, Internet touch screen search, QR code guide commentary, colored sculpture restoration of historical scenes and rich physical displays, 🧑🌾make tourists more and more interested in increasing attention, forming a trend of accumulation and exploration of historical knowledge.
📌The ancient sites in Chengde City are especially prosperous in the Qing Dynasty, so the Qing Dynasty cultural relics are also among the top in the country. It was also the capital of the "Rehe Province" during the Republic of China. ☝️The origin of Rehe was the hot spring of the Summer Resort in winter. The steam from the Wulie River that flows through the city is named after the steam, and the Chengde Museum records and reproduces the changes in history in detail.
📍Tips:
Museum address: Northeast corner of the intersection of Puning Road and Huancheng North Road, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City.
Chengde Outer Eight Temples - (Little Potala Palace)
Overall style: A Han-Tibetan combined temple with a grand scale, majestic and solemn, cleverly built on the mountain, various white platforms and pagoda buildings are scattered due to the terrain, with different heights and changes, full of snow-capped plateau style.
The Big Red Platform is the main building of the Little Potala Palace. Below is a large white platform up to 18 meters high, and a large red platform 25 meters high stands on it, with a total height of 43 meters. There are six vertical glazed Buddha niches inlaid in the center of the south side of the Big Red Platform, with yellow and green colors, and Han-style techniques are used to mark the axis.
The Wanfaguiyi Hall is the main hall located in the center of the group of buildings. It has a double eave and four corners, and there is a corridor around it. Under the eaves of the hall, there is a Yunlong Dou plaque with the inscription "Wanfaguiyi" by Emperor Qianlong, written in Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian, and Tibetan. The roof of the hall is all covered with gilded fish scale tiles, the treasure top is in the shape of a Tibetan Dharma bell, the ridge of the hall is decorated with cloud patterns, the four corners of the flying eaves are high, and the decoration is luxurious.
Treasure hunt in Shuangta Mountain.
Decided to go to Shuangta Mountain because there are wild macaques in Shuangta Mountain, which are free to move.
If you want to see macaques, go in the morning. Because macaques also need to take a nap at noon and afternoon.
Some tourists feed bananas, apples, and bread. For the health of animals, it is best not to feed.
Take the No. 15 bus, the fare is 3 yuan to Shuangta Mountain. Adult ticket is 50 yuan. You can buy a cable car ticket. It's not steep, the road is easy to walk, many people push strollers up, and uncles and aunts in their 50s and 60s are walking.
Follow the sign to the main peak, circle 360° around the main peak, one peak is 30 meters high, one peak is 35 meters high, and there is a tower on each peak. There are many beehives on the mountain wall. There is a golden tortoise stone under the main peak, you can pray for blessings.
It is said to be a treasure hunt. In fact, there are many attractions besides the main peak. If you don't pay attention, you will miss it. Standing on the main peak, you can see the imperial chair stone and the lover's cliff. There is a camel peak at the Shuangta Mountain Memorial.
Walk from the main peak to the corridor, there is an open-air fence at the place of the bronze mural, and there will be monkeys in the fence. At first, many people surrounded several layers to watch the monkeys. Suddenly a monkey sprang out of the fence, and then went up the mountain and up the tree in groups, and the tourists followed.
Pay attention to the side of the mountain on the shady road, there will really be monkeys, very surprised.
Follow the walk, there is a waterfall, pass through the waterfall, and you will reach the Shuangta Mountain Memorial. Looking at Shuangta Mountain from a distance, it feels more beautiful.
Then there is Sanxian Guan, and then down the mountain the same way.
It takes 3 hours to walk all the way, not tired.
There are swings on the way to the exit.
Before going out, I went to the museum to take a look, and sent a postcard at the mailbox at the door.
The food at the entrance of Shuangta Mountain is cheap.
Jiguan Mountain in Chengde.
Jiguan Mountain is one of the top ten mountains in Chengde, located in Dashimiao Town, southeast of Chengde City. Five uneven stone pillars stand on the mountain, which looks like a chicken crown from a distance, so it is called Jiguan Mountain.
Jiguan Mountain is a typical representative of Chengde Danxia landform. In addition to this, there are also Jingchui Peak, Jiaqiang Gully, Chaoyang Cave, Tangjiawan, Shuangta Mountain and other scenic spots. Jiguan Mountain is currently free and suitable for self-driving. However, the mountain road is rugged and narrow, so be careful when overtaking.
Day 2 in Chengde, challenge successful.
In the morning, I had a pancake with sausage and soy milk for breakfast.
After breakfast, I took the bus to Putuo Zongcheng Temple. I entered the mountain gate, passed the Five Pagodas Gate, climbed the Big Red Platform, looked out at Bangchui Mountain, and saw the golden roof shining.
Then I went to the Panchen Lama's Palace and saw the glazed pagoda.
I experienced the double-decker sightseeing bus, passed the station, and took a taxi to Qingshui Peak. I touched Bangchui Mountain and lived to 113.
I walked up the mountain and down the mountain, a total of 3 hours.
For children, it is very tempting to experience the cable car. But I still hiked with the children, and on the way we saw a lizard, looked at Bangchui Mountain from different distances and angles, and saw the Toad Stone. It was very tiring, and the road was not easy to walk. But isn't the road of life bumpy?
Indeed, I am a person who suffers without hardship. Along the way, I told the children stories about horseshoes and various legends.
The journey of life is like this, rest when you are tired, grit your teeth and go up, new platforms have new perspectives.
Going downhill is much easier. The children are jumping around.
Today is another 20,000 steps, and I ordered stewed pig feet with soybeans in the evening to replenish my leg strength.
Chengde specialties: Mountain Villa, Little Potala Palace, Qingshui Mountain, Double Pagoda Mountain.
Chengde Mountain Resort.
Chengde Mountain Resort is nearby! It's no wonder it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site... 😭||This restaurant has been open for over a decade and is only about 500 meters away from the Mountain Resort. It's a great place to visit! The environment is clean and bright, and all the dishes we ordered were great. 🦞The duck and shrimp pot is a must-order. The shrimp is crispy and can be eaten directly, and the duck head is also very crispy. The dish is very flavorful and is perfect with alcohol. The mushroom milk jelly is super cute, and it's so cute that I can't bear to eat it. 🍄The cheese sweet potato must be eaten while it's hot so you can pull the cheese. 🧀The turtle jelly was a pleasant surprise, especially for girls. The overall cost per person for a meal is less than 100, and you can have two meals in one pot. The cost performance is really full. 😭

Hebei | Chengde Mountain Resort ~ Listen to advice and make a travel plan before visiting.
|Chengde Mountain Resort ~ Listen to advice and make a travel plan before visiting.🌈National Day holiday weather is particularly good, visiting the Mountain Resort, neither cold nor hot, but the temperature difference between morning and evening is large, so prepare both thick and thin clothes.
🌈Enter from Lizheng Gate, visit the Mountain Resort Museum, see various palaces, large pillars made of golden nanmu wood, and arts and crafts.
Next, the Mountain Resort is divided into three areas: mountain area, lake area, and plain area.
🌈The mountain area is super large, it is impossible to walk it on foot, so be sure to take the mountain ring bus!
🙊Don't get off at the first stop, there is no scenery
And since no one gets off the bus, it is difficult to wait for an empty seat to get back on
🌈Get off at Erma Road, you can see the panoramic view of Putuo Zongcheng Temple (Little Potala Palace)
1 The mountain sightseeing bus drives very fast, stops at four stations, the first station can be skipped, not recommended for friends who get carsick.
2 The most and most pitted is the lake area, boat ride 70 yuan, the distance is very close, you can walk to Jinshan Temple and Yanyu Tower. Jinshan Temple is built according to Zhenjiang Jinshan Temple, it is not interesting, Yanyu Tower is the filming location of "Huan Zhu Ge Ge".
3 The plain area is better, reaching Wenjin Pavilion and Rehe Spring. Wenjin Pavilion is where Ji Xiaolan compiled the Siku Quanshu, Rehe Spring is just spring water, not hot
🌈In short, the scenery is beautiful, the place is large, there are many ancient sites, a bit tiring for legs, boat ride is a pit, it is recommended not to take it!
