Peleș EP.3 : While we wait…the castle slowly reveals itself.
🏰 Peleș – The Castle of Time
A 9-Part Travel Series: A Castle That Never Stops to Breathe
At first, we saw nothing but a stone courtyard, old statues, and a high wooden wall. But the longer we stayed, the details began to emerge.
This courtyard is like the heart of Peleș—intricately carved Tudor woodwork, rows of stained glass, seemingly telling a silent story through light.
On one wall, frescoes by French and German artists, some of which seemed to have come straight out of a theater.
There was a long line outside, but we weren't impatient. We just looked up...
What we saw wasn't the towering castle spire, but rather small wooden windows, stained glass, shadows of balconies, and deer heads. These details didn't reveal themselves, but rather "waited to be seen." The woodwork on the tower was so detailed that we wanted to pause and gaze.
The arched window frames and small spires on the roof made us feel like we were standing in a German fairytale. The half-timbered structures, or Fachwerk, common in Central Europe, were both beautiful and intellectual, helping to withstand the tremors of heavy winter snow.
We paused to gaze at the image of a young man in Bohemian clothing on the wall. He wasn't doing anything special, just posing in a "lively" manner, as if laughing with friends at a party or peeking at someone from the corner of the balcony.
In another image, a man gently plays the lute, not declaring victory or holding a sword, but in a light, Sunday afternoon-like rhythm.
In one corner is a bust of Emperor Hadrian.
Near the archway, we see another statue of a young man.
Historians say these statues weren't created for any one person, but were placed to "feel" the courage, beauty, and chivalry without any description at the base.
What's interesting is that even after more than a hundred years,
the shadows of the wood still cast on the wall remain the same—unchanged.
