Cabo Frio, Brazil: the city of wind and white beaches
Cabo Frio is one of the most famous beach towns in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is known for its long white sandy beaches and crystal-clear Atlantic waters. The most popular spot is Praia do Forte, which combines a 16th-century fortress, a wide shoreline, and a lively atmosphere.
The city is valued for its clean sea, developed infrastructure, and constant wind that makes the hot weather much more pleasant. This wind also turns Cabo Frio into a hotspot for surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing.
Cabo Frio attracts not only Brazilians but also many foreign visitors. Argentinians, Uruguayans, and Chileans come here regularly, while European travelers often include the city in their coastal itineraries.

Focus on: stunning beaches of Brazil
Beaches in Cabo Frio are a hidden gem! Cabo Frio is a small coastal town just a couple of hours drive north from Rio de Janeiro and it got some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to.
Praia do Forte usually is the most crowded one and it features some of the historical sites (like old fortress) right on water which are super cool to explore. There's a spot where you can jump from a boulder to the water which is super fun!
But my favorite part is a further end of Praia Braga where beach becomes wider and you have to cross white sand dunes before you get to the water. Dunes are absolutely stunning and literally the whitest and finest sand I've ever seen in my life!
Tip: there's plenty of vendors at the beach, so it is easy to buy snack or drinks right there.
