Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region) The church was built on the site where the 16th-century Marzuela suburban mosque once stood. Built in the Mudejar style, it has three naves with a choir at the bottom. The central nave is covered with a Mudejar coffered ceiling and the side aisles are ribbed. The central nave is separated from the main church by pointed transepts on Gothic pilasters. Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region) The Nuestra Señora Church was built on the ruins of a former mosque. The building was begun in 1529 in Gothic style, but only the apse remains from this period, as well as the side chapels with pointed arches and Gothic pilasters. The rest were destroyed by the earthquake. In 1531, at the initiative of the Canon Council, it was rebuilt to a Renaissance design by Alonso de Covarrubias and master stonemason Rodrigo de Gibaja. Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region) This Renaissance-style building dates back to the 16th century. It was part of a complex consisting of the aldermen’s houses, the jail and the town hall itself. The facade distinguishes the ground floor with Roman arches and a Corinthian loggia. Inside the building there is a chapel with a Renaissance coffered ceiling in the Mudéjar tradition. Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region) This historic city borders the Bazaar Mountains Nature Reserve. The old Moorish part of town, consisting of the "Medina", the "Alcazaba" and the Arab quarter, has narrow streets but is mostly intact. The "Alcazaba" (castle) is located in the historic center. Remains of parts of the defensive walls and various towers can still be seen. Also worth mentioning is the Mudejar-style Santiago Cathedral and the former university church, Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Encarnación, built on the site of a former mosque.
