The colors, the symmetry, the craftsmanship—it was a visual feast. The view from Mount Aksla was the highlight of my visit. A climb up 418 steps led me to a panoramic lookout that took my breath away: the town’s pastel rooftops spilling into the sea, the surrounding fjords stretching endlessly, and the Sunnmøre Alps standing tall in the distance. It was one of the most unforgettable vistas I’ve ever experienced. I also explored the Atlantic Sea Park (Atlanterhavsparken)—one of the largest saltwater aquariums in Europe. Watching sea otters and seals up close while learning about marine life was both relaxing and fascinating. For a quieter escape, I hopped on a short boat ride to the nearby island of Godøy, where I hiked to the Alnes Lighthouse and was rewarded with sweeping coastal views and crashing waves. Our stay in Ålesund was 10 hours. Since we had plenty of time, we had a leisurely breakfast, took photos of the empty ship, and then walked around the city👟 The wind was so strong at the observation deck after climbing 418 steps that I thought we would be blown away, but it was great to get a panoramic view of the Art Nouveau cityscape👏🏻 The restaurant at the top also has a great view, so even just going for tea makes you feel elegant. The Art Nouveau Centre in Ålesund is based on a real pharmacy and has a very stylish interior 💊 The walls on the second floor are made of Japanese gold leather paper, which made me happy to see the unexpected connection to Japan ☺️ It is connected to the neighboring KUBE Museum by an underground passage, which seems to mainly hold exhibitions by local artists.
