The Pheasant Inn - the Inn Collection Group
4.2/578 Reviews
We stayed for 2 nights but would have liked to have stopped longer. Room was nice but a bit squashed for space , bed comfortable, shower very good. Meals all good. Great place nearby at the train station. Also used the local spa facility, very smart but not everything was working properly when we were there. Staff were all very friendly , helpful and worked hard. Food was good especially the breakfast. Liked the bars in the hotel and the decor and atmosphere of the hotel.
Troutbeck Inn
4.4/5100 Reviews
On arrival in the pouring rain 3.45pm door to inn was locked, knocked on the door and lady shouted we are closed, come back at 4pm, 15mins? I said we are staying she said we are not ready. Ok! But no apologies just a bit rude, so we went for a coffee Came back after meeting up with my young family, my son and fiancé and 2 boys 3&5, my daughter 7 months pregnant husband and toddler 2 We requested a table for dinner and after some discussion were shown to the family side of the inn, very nice. We checked into our room while the family settled in to order for kids so not too late(5.30) Ordered drinks and a full family meal for 6 adults 3 kids which was lovely kids well behaved, at 6.30 popped upstairs with the toddler and boys to put PJs on. they were staying at the camp site 5 mins away that’s why we booked the Trout beck Inn, to be close to them just down the rd We had just finished dinner and the weather had changed to strong winds, so bad there was a weather warning announcement, we asked could we book 2 more rooms and were told no! although they were available they couldn’t access the booking system? So we suggested we booked tonight and paid tomorrow as weather so bad to go back to camp site with the kids Still no compromise a NO I total understand policy and procedures but this was handled all wrong even a phone call could have been made to possibly get permission surely it’s about sales! And filling rooms So we suggested my daughter pregnant and the toddler stay in our room and we would stay at camp! For their safety Again we were told NO toddler not insured? Ok understand but to say no to my day couldn’t stay 7 months pregnant, ridiculous and unacceptable ……morning - We were told on arrival please fill in Your breakfast form the night before and with all the fuss with room request and bad weather getting everyone out safely we forgot , so in the morning - breakfast served 8-9am on website, We asked at 8.30 if we could have some breakfast and lady said NO you didn’t fill in your form ! Honestly ridiculous attitude, we were told - We cook to order and buy in per order the night before ? Really So I’m not sure how that works for an Inn who can provide full evening menus unannounced but breakfast is a no go! How can a property who is providing accommodation and food as a service not have eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms or even cereals etc on site. 🤔 She did eventually offer toast but not with a smile Just unbelievable service and attitude, I can say one man from the bar helped by getting ice for us when the lady said she didn’t have any left so thank you to that gentleman. Seems so short sighted that the Inn itself is lovely rooms are good, but the rest is all desperately disappointing and unacceptable front of house service was uncaring and just not guest friendly really let the Inn down. Shocking service In summary our family dinner had early closing at 8.30ish so bar shut, reason we were told the lady had a lon
George and Dragon Clifton
4/519 Reviews
Just back from a wonderful two days at the George and Dragon in Clifton. If you are looking for a relaxing break on the eastern edge of the Lake District then look no further! Handy for trips to Lowther Castle and for walks around Ullswater. We couldn’t fault G&D’s bedrooms, bathrooms, bar or dining room. Food was delicious (special mention for the cheese soufflé and the chocolate brownie with ice cream) and the service outstanding. Star performers were Daisy, who knows how to make a really mean flat white, and Mike, a perfect host behind the bar. If I had but one small grouse it would be that the mark up on the wines was on the high side, but then again everything is more expensive nowadays. We really enjoyed our stay.
Ambleside Fell rooms

The hotel is newly renovated, the parking lot is not far away, the room is clean and tidy, there are a lot of teas and the two biscuits are delicious, the town is peaceful, the environment is quiet, the sleep is very comfortable, the landlord is also very good, staying one more day is only 50 pounds, it is worth recommending
The Bridge Inn
4.1/579 Reviews
We decided to go out for a belated Mothering Sunday dinner to The Bridge. The specials board had some interesting items and 2 out of the 4 of us ordered from that. My wife is essentially vegan so there was limited choice, but at least there was a choice ! Variety of meals including the clack & blue salad which I thoroughly enjoyed. Staff as always were friendly and there was nice atmosphere with locals & walkers in the bar. Prices are on par with other bars / restaurants in the area. Would we go back - yes. Would we recommend - yes
Three Shires Inn
4.6/569 Reviews
Had a lovely visit to The Three Shires last week and today we discover that it now has new owners! We have visited many times over the past 46 years (we honeymooned there!), and have never been disappointed. Last week the food was superb, and our stay was so comfortable and relaxing Thank you to James and Tony for the amazing times we’ve had, and to all the staff for their attentiveness and kindness We look forward to visiting again soon, and wish the new owners the best of luck in their new venture. Please don’t make too many changes, we love it the way it is!
Shakespeare Inn
4.3/577 Reviews
We visited on the Saturday evening and had a lovely meal, man behind the bar very welcoming. They check on how the meal was and we were very impressed so said we would return on the Sunday for a roast dinner. Not so welcoming on the Sunday different staff behind the bar, ordered 2 roast beef dinners and it was shocking. The worst Yorkhire pudding ever burnt to a crisp. They never came to check on how the food was. The beef was so tough like it had been reheated on a grill. Overall it was the worst Sunday roast I think I ever had. Such a difference in the Food and service from one day to the next. We left very disappointed and still hungry as it was not edible.
The Angel Inn - the Inn Collection Group

The scenery around the hotel is very beautiful, right by the lake. It takes three minutes to walk to Peter Rabbit World and 10 minutes to walk to the cruise ship terminal. It is highly recommended.

The Watermill Inn & Brewery
4.3/561 Reviews
This is a place we come to every so often and always have a great time there. It is a down-to-earth Pub with no pretensions but it has an awful lot going for it. Located in a small village of Ings we tend to drive 10 minutes or so to Grasmere and do a lovely walk from the centre to the round Rydal Water. This is quite tiring so there's something very special about going back to this cosy pub and having a pint of the Windermere beer brewed on the premises. We stayed overnight in our room was small but very comfortable. The bathroom door could do with oiling as it does squeak a bit but other than that Just enjoy the comfortable bed and lovely bedding. Breakfast is included and it is fantastic. Locally sourced food and I challenge you to eat it all!We got the bacon and sausage to Takeaway as it was just too good to leave and some of the best we've ever had. The staff are helpful and friendly and good fun as well. If you want a no stress short break this could be your place and it is highly recommended.
