A truly beautiful pub hotel. Great friendly team, beautiful rooms, good food and real fire. Off road parking. Nothing to complain about at all. We will be back.

We arrived looking to do very little during our stay and that's what we got thanks to the staff at the three shires. We were greeted on arrival by Julie who was friendly and easy to talk to. Our room was clean, well decorated and there were some fantastic pictures on the walls. We were very impressed with the bathroom, even down to the heated sensor mirror . The bed was extremely comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was delicious and we were able to relax in the lounge afterwards. There is a great choice for breakfast and Julie was a pleasure to talk to. We ate out at the Eltermere Inn the second night which I regretted as it wasn't as welcoming as the three shires. I would recommend this place to friends and family and we will be visiting again in the near future.

Our first visit to the The Three Shires Inn and we would definitely return! We stayed in the "Black Sails" room overlooking the beautiful valley and the first thing I noticed was the attention to detail in the rooms ( room named after a fell, with a picture of that fell in your room as an example ) and in the communal areas. The room itself and the bathroom was spotlessly clean and so were the other areas and you can see why as the team are so attentive. The rooms are of a high quality with high end fixtures and fittings, you can see the owners care about the look and feel of the place. The staff are so friendly, with particular mentions for Gary and Julie. Gary was so helpful, helping us with our luggage up to the room and offering to keep a bottle of wine chilling for us while we were out so we could buy the bottle rather than separate glasses. He was knowledgeable on the beers and whiskeys too, which they have a vast amount in the bar there and we tried a few. We ate breakfast and evening meal one night too and it is really good that Julie explained they automatically book guests for the evening meal and then ask if you want the booking on the day. It saves guests being disappointed and that worked for us. You are also asked at breakfast if you want your room refreshing that day or not, which we felt was a good idea. We really didn't need it doing for a two night stay, so it saved their time and good on the environment not changing towels etc. Julie was very attentive at breakfast and at the dinner so you don't ever feel between Gary and Julie that you will be forgotten. The service is faultless. The food itself was also so impressive and of a very high quality. We commented that the chef was fantastic. The fish of the day and the venison haunch were beautiful and the cranachan and sticky toffee pudding are definitely recommended. We ended the evening in the lounge area, which is very homely and a great selection of Lakeland books to browse. The walks from the Inn are beautiful and we did a circular walk that encompassed Colwith and Skelwith forces with a stop at Cathedral Cave. 6 hours, but lots of stops along the way. With walks like that on your doorstep, you need to return to experience it again!

The staff here can’t do enough for you. Lovely, clean and friendly place. The food is great too. We broke down at the top of a mountain in the middle of a storm en-route to the hotel, a passer by took us to the hotel and they were absolutely amazing ensuring we were warm and safe until we could get help. We were humbled by how great they were.

We booked Three Shires Inn last minute for Easter weekend. It was a great experience from start to finish. We arrived early to get a walk in before check in and we asked if it was ok to park on the car park, we were given a parking pass straight away and it was not a problem at all, staff very friendly. After our walk we checked in with Julie and all ready & easy . Room was lovely, spotlessly clean, toiletries provided which were really nice, tea & coffee and hairdryer. View from room was amazing we had the Little Fell room. After we had unpacked we went to the bar for a drink and went to the residents lounge where Julie lit the fire for us straight away, it was so cosy and comfortable we could have stayed there all night. Dinner was already booked for us, a great idea, and the food was lovely. Agree with some reviews that there could be more choice but the service and food were both excellent on both nights we stayed. Breakfast was equally good with a good choice of cereals, yog, fruit etc then a breakfast menu with plenty of choice. I highly recommend a stay at the Three Shires, its a hidden gem and the staff make the stay welcoming and comfortable. Special mention to Julie and Gary who were superstars! we will definitely be returning and recommending to all our friends

What a lovely evening meal at the Three Shires! We sampled 4 different main courses between us and all were excellent. Clean plates all round! Desserts were lovely too, and the children’s meals were of much better quality than those found in most places. Staff were very attentive, and a special shout-out for the bar staff who looked after us so well. We’ll be back soon

Called in for lunch whilst on Langdale/Elterwater circuit, quite a limited menu, ate v good pie and drank an excellent pint of Coniston ale, only negative was that they didn’t offer mash with the pie, just chips which was a shame. Thanks, will visit again.

We had a lovely 2 night stay here and it was amazing!!!!!! Our room was spotless and very cosy. Tony was a very attentive host and couldn’t do enough for us. The breakfast was delicious and you could tell it was all fresh produce. We also had a lovely evening meal and a drink or 2 through in the lounge next to the coal fire. I honestly cannot wait to come back. It was lovely to get away from the bustle of everyday life and to completely chill and take in the beauty of this gem and its surroundings. Thanks for everything x

Probably the best hotel we've ever stayed in and both of us have travelled a lot. This was an anniversary trip and we couldn't have picked a more special hotel and location. Really comfy room, warm amazing bathroom and fabulous food. Breakfast included was superb. We would both like to thank the friendly owners for such a lovely stay and highly recommend the Three Shires. We'll definitely be back!
