Hotel la Parrita ★★★
"Inexpensive, clean, comfortable, with everything I needed, easy walk to the beach and town centre. Friendly, helpful staff made me feel very welcome. There's a bar next door for coffee and breakfast Ideal for this solo traveller on a budget."
Playaballena ★★★★
"I was really worried about our holiday after reading previous reviews so I thought I should reassure people who have booked. The hotel is big, there’s a big pool and plenty of sun beds. A lifeguard regularly comes round and checks if they are being used and if not they’ll put a note on which you can remove if you’re there but otherwise your things will be removed for you to collect if you’ve been gone for over an hour. This is actually a really good way to make sure those who need a sun bed get one. The rooms are big and clean with air con. The safe costs €3 a day. In the all inclusive is breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as crisps and some pots of ice cream. You can buy other ice creams and cocktails or upgrade to imperial all inclusive for €45 a day. The meals were fine - lots and lots of choice. Always a lot of fish and meat, breads, always pasta (which can be plain) and pizza. It was all fine but became a bit dull as the week went on but as I had a fussy eater I was just glad there was always something simple for him to have. The beach nearby is beautiful but there aren’t sun beds or parasols to hire there so the hotel is missing a trick not hiring them out but all the Spanish guests seem to bring their own with them. It is a Spanish resort although we met lots of British guests too. The staff are amazing and are brilliant at trying to translate our needs. Practice a few simple phrases and please and thank you as I think British people forget it’s an ‘us problem’ that we’re in a different country and don’t speak the language. Location wise it is very remote and other than the beach there’s not much around. We found a pizzeria a 15 min walk away which was ok. The restaurant on the beach didn’t have good service and forgot half our meals. The Naos restaurant by the beach on the edge of the hotel was good but if you’re after a bit more to get out to or eat out then you’ll need transport. A lot of people cycle. A lovely, relaxing holiday which I was pleasantly surprised about."
Alegria Costa Ballena Aquafun ★★★★
"A great place to relax. The surrounding towns are beautiful. The hotel food was very good and the waitstaff's service was excellent."
Elba Costa Ballena Beach & Thalasso Resort ★★★★
"Located next to the beach. Easy to access and reach its location. Great atmosphere within the hotel. Rooms were ample, clean and we had views to the swim up pool and beach. Good value for money considering the time of year we went. Was quiet as no traffic in the area. Service provided by staff members was brilliant especially Marcel and Virginia during breakfast and lunch always with a smile and good vibes. Ana who had been recently placed at the pool bar was great and although she had no prior experience in cocktails she made the best mojitos and san Francisco. Roberto from the kitchen was very helpful when crabclaws were served and needed opening. The best paellas were from Antonio. From the seafood, meat and black rice ones. He is spot one in making them. Highly recommend able."
Life Apartments Costa Ballena ★★★★
Barceló Costa Ballena Golf & Spa ★★★★
"The hotel rooms are average, buffet food is basic and not correct temperature little offering for vegetarians."
Hotel Duque de Najera ★★★★
"Great place, I'll come back again. Very clean, great service. Thank you."
Punta Candor Suites ★★★★
"Amazing apartments. We loved everything about this place. Perfect location for our Pickleball tournament, beach is on the doorstep and a fabulous ice cream parlour is across the street. We couldn't have wished for anything better. The pool area is superb. The amenities in the apartment are extensive. A cheese grater would be a good addition. Every room was very clean and tidy. Very peaceful at night as you are well away from the busy places. The staff were friendly and helpful. We all felt that the value for money was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful stay"
