Azores Youth Hostels - Pico

Sometimes the staff was very kind and helpful and sometimes rigid and hard. There is no kitchen or refrigerator to accommodate customers. The bedrooms are very small and the beds are noisy. On 6 beds, both of the center have no take or light. No serviette or soap provided. Healthcare is far from the bedrooms. The toilets were running and there was always water on the floor. No air conditioning, no ventilator and the boxes are not barriered. To finish on a positive note it was clean and the architecture of this old building is beautiful.

While this hotel is located right in the Marina next to the ferry terminal you are in for a few surprises. Let's start that it feels like you went back in time. The hotel seems pretty old, where you don't even have in room safes and if want to store something you have to ask the front desk to store it in the safe for you. When you hlgwt to your floor there are 2 full bathrooms which makes you think that you are in some dorm room with shared bathrooms, but that's not the case. There were nice surprises as well, where the pool has salt water vs plain old chlorinated. Another nice surprise was the breakfast, which had the cutest pancakes that were made by a machine that most of the people could not figure out how to work. The hotel is pretty clean nevertheless. Another surprises is if you are a light sleeper is the location of the ferry right by your windows which makes a pretty loud honking signal when it leaves and the last one leaves after midnight.

At first I wasn't going to put such a low grade even though I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and because I thought that at least the staff was saved, but just after checking out I get a notification that the establishment informs booking that we have not stayed so that I do not have the opportunity to leave a review. What a coincidence! We had to change rooms but it turned out to be very unpleasant too. Installations without maintenance, humidity in ceilings and walls, noise from other rooms, poor hygiene, cobwebs under the bed and in the corners, cockroaches and centipedes (we killed 5) and they also left us a gift behind the bed, the bathroom extractor fan It didn't work but it made a lot of noise and humidity, it only increased after each shower which also smelled like residual water. We could not leave the windows open because more insects entered. The shared dining room, which is where he also has his office, smelled closed and when it came time to go use cutlery... there was none. Anyway... all nonsense, I would be ashamed to have accommodation like this.

Passing through the island of Pico with friends for two days to get to know the island and experience the ascent to the mountain. The space has the essentials, however the stay was marked by the inflexibility of the hostess. We questioned the possibility of having breakfast earlier on the day of our ascent to Pico mountain, however we were told by the hostess that the only possibility would be to leave some food in the room, which we agreed. However, at the end of the afternoon we were informed by message that it would not be possible, so we started the climb without a decent breakfast! On an island where the main tourist attraction is the climb to the peak mountain, this type of behavior is incomprehensible. A place to avoid for those who want to climb the Pico mountain!!!
